don't know if i can remember my own name, but i'll try to remember some of the books we've used.

potter & perry (mosby) fundamentals of nursing

loudermilk (i think) essentials of maternity nursing

can't recall off hand our psych book

and we have smeltzer & bare (i think) for med/surg

can you tell that nursing school has fried my brain? :rolleyes: :D

of course, we've also had supplemental text that i've bought on my own.

taber's medical dictionary

3 doenges care plan books (for med/surg, maternity and psych. i intend to purchase one for peds as well. awesome books)

some sort of pocket assessment guide (which i never use)

carpenito nursing diagnosis (useless for me but her care plan and diagnosis book is much better)

my favorite books are 2 that were not required, a kaplan nclex review and saunders 2nd ed comprehensive review for nclex-rn isbn 0721692354. i bought the saunders book last semester and used it to study for my tests. it is set up great, all the info is in outline form, it's just the facts without all the "extra" words.

Your right it is easier to cut and paste. So give me the scoop, I have not bought these yet. Are the user friendly, easy to read, small print (yikes!)

I had a Peds book that was very small print and it made me sleepy everytime I sat down to read it. I also have Kee and Hayes pharmacology book. (in addition to the rest of the library)

I think Iggy is a good book, the edition I have is one big book with thin pages (like a bible) LOL, I wonder if that is a hint! The newer edition will be 2 books. One thing that I have done is to use the study guides whether or not the pages are assigned. The answers are in the back of the book, so I would just copy the answers and use it for extra study for tests.

My biggest trick is to read every single page that is listed in the assigned reading even it it is not something we go over in class. I figure if it was on the list it is fair game on a test. I might not "get" everything in all the reading, but many times when taking a test something in my little brain says, hmmmm, you read this somewhere, now figure out that answer.

I don't know about the rest of ya'll.... But I absolutely HATE that Potter & Perry Fundamentals of Nursing Book... It is almost impossible to find the answers to anything without searching in 20 different spots...

These two books are not required, but they are the best "side" books I've found so far.

"Profesional Guide to Signs & Symptoms" (2001) 3rd Edition by Springhouse

"Profesional Guide to Diseases" (2001) 7th Edition by Springhouse.

You can read parts of the books on Amazon.com if your interested. They retail each for around $45 but you can pick them up used for around $17. They are both awesome.
