anxiety about sec. sem.

Hi,

I will be going into my sec. sem. of a 4 sem adn program. If I finished this spring I will be half way finished. The thing is I have so much anxiety about it. I did good in my first sem. b-c range on all tests and worked 20 hours a week. I am cutting my hours this sem. I know I probably shouln't worry but I am just so anxious b/c I want to be a R.N. so much. We are going to get checked off on hanging I.V. and IV piggyback the first week of classes. I keeping thinking what if I don't get that wrong. I am looking to purchase some reveiw materials b/c I really want to do good this sem. I am taking Med Surg II and Mental Health along w/Pharm. which is online. Does anyone feel the way I do.

I know what you mean. This is the start of my second semester and I have to take 19 credit hours (all nursing courses), I will be in class or clinicals 32-35 hours a week. I have 4 small children and I start back up next week. My nerves are just really toying with me. If you miss 2 days you are out of the program. There are just so many "what-if's". Good luck to you.

I am going into my last and final semester in my ADN program. I will be having Med Surg 11 with leadership, Psych, and Management. Believe me when I say that I feel nervous before each and ever semester it is a normal feeling. I must tell you that it all goes by so fast, before you know it your class will be planning your graduation. Take it one day at a time and this will be the semester with many ahha moments and you will start thinking and performing like a nurse.

For some reason I'm not that nervous. I have a few butterflies but, nothing to stress over. I did really well the fall semester and am excited about the spring. This will be semester 2/6 in a BSN program. Like another poster said I just took it one week at a time and before I know it the semester was over. But...... I must say I am loving my winter break. Over the next three weeks I decided to study a little for my nursing computation class. Its only worth on credit but a 90% is a C :uhoh21: and we have been told that alot of people fail this course last year. Happy holidays and good luck to everyone!:)

This only applies to this class. This course is where we learn to calculate medication dosages. I can understand, too much or too little of any medication cause problems. Beside I wouldn't want a nurse who could calculate the correct dosage of medication giving me anything. A 90 is high but I understand we are messing with peoples lives. 90%= C

95%= B

100%= A

I think that is how it is but I'm sure a 90 is the least you can make and pass. Is this true for any others. I though this was the norm for this class.

Oh okay, I thought you meant for the whole program.

We don't have a calcutions class - but have a calculations exam at the beginning of each semester for the duration of the program. We must make a 95% or higher on that exam to continue in classes/clinical.

Our calculations are integrated also. We have it during lecture, lab (last semester) and during clinical post-conference. I'm glad they "immerse" us in it, because math was not my strong suit in HS.

I'm not to shabby in math but it has been a few years since I have taken a math course. Are there any site you know of that provides caculation modules. Want to get a head start so I won't feel so overwhelmed.:uhoh3: Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.:)

I hear ya! We had to pass it with 100%. But they gave those that needed it an extra chance. Everyone passed it.

Yes, if you look at the top of the board there's a post called "Websites" or something like that and you'll find nursing calculations in there.

Nursing school, has to be tough. It's like the bootcamp for nurses. In real life situations, you have to know alot of stuff by heart. Commit all you can to memory. Don't give up when the going gets tough! Don't work so much while in school. Make flash cards, find a mentor, get a study group together. Stick together with the group. That way you won't have as much anxiety as you do trying to do the stuff all by yourself. Really get to know your instructors, and work hard on learning. It's all worth it in the end. The results are nothing like you dreamed! The world will be your oyster!!! I'm not kidding. There are so many jobs for nurses, and they all have training programs! Great benefits, and education reimbursements. Once on the job, when you've obtained your RN license...you will find more mentors and you will grow, and learn all the things that they didn't teach you in nursing school.
