There was a student sleeping, head-on-desk, last week in lecture. LOL, that is one expensive and long-awaited nap! I hope she doesn't fall asleep in the middle of a procedure some day. lololol

Anyone else have a good one?

Just the opposite. We have a woman that constantly talks to her self, flips through the pages of her binder, taps her pens and pencils, readjusts in her seat...it is very distracting. I wish she would take a nap.

LOL!

One day in our A&P lecture a similar student kept going and going and going asking pointless and soooo not needed questions. Well she usually interrupts the instructor constantly and barges into the middle of an explanation.

Not only that, she actually will sit there and argue with the instructor as to how at work she heard this and that and how Instructor so and so said otherwise etc. She is incessantly annoying.

One day, the instructor could not take it any longer and walked over to her and said, " (Insert any feminine name here)......Here are my notes, the marker, and eraser. Please feel free to resume lecture at this point since you DO seem to know more than me". She was bright red and never argued with the instructor again.

I instructor did apologize after lecture to her in front of the class, but the girl graciously accepted that she was wrong to begin with.

Poor thing, I really felt for her :chuckle

This reminds me of the class wacko thread last year, I am going to go find it and bump it up, it cracked me up.

We had a guy fall asleep in class today, too! He was sitting the back of the room, in the corner.

At first, we heard a mild snoring, which caused some giggles. Pretty soon, though, his snoring got louder and louder, until he woke up from the rest of the class laughing at him! Even the teacher had to stop lecturing! :imbar

Unfortunately Jess, sometimes doing what your instructor did is exactly what needs to be done. Had a couple in my classes years ago that did the same thing. Alot of class time wasted on nonsense.:angryfire :angryfire

I don't really have a problem with sleepers in class (as long as they are not snoring or drooling on my notes:rolleyes: ), but it was the talkers and noisemakers that got on my nerves, I found they interferred with other students learning (far more than any sleeper).:angryfire

Does every class have a whacko?!?! Our class was combined with another local class...we ended up with TWO!!! Made things interesting somedays, and just annoying on others!!

we had a woman who use to pop gum and hum various songs. She sat in the first row and the teacher finally asked her to stop humming.

We had a woman who actually answered a cell phone l in class and held a conversation for about 5 minutes.

Thank you for this thread.

I just got back from class and I have absolutely had it. :angryfire I understand that there are people in my class that already have a healthcare background, and I even enjoy it when some of them relate what we are talking about to their jobs. However if a certain person would have asked one more 15 minute long question about a specific disease when we are just trying to cover the basics of pathogens I think I would have screamed. Using technical terms (incorrectly I might add) is not impressive, derailing the lecture because you want to show off is not productive and no one cares!!! It's even more annoying that they made a big scene slamming pencils and books because they did bad on the test. Hello, if you would pay attention to what we are actually talking about maybe you would pass the tests!

Wow thanks again for letting me vent.

Our class yesterday was combined because there were no Monday classes this week. The woman sitting next to me brought her laptop and actually typed notes while the instructor was talking. Now before you all start thinking what a grand idea this is, let me fill you in on my morning. All I heard for almost two hours was her clickety-clacking the keyboard. I had to stick my finger in my ear so I could concentrate on the lecture! :uhoh3:

Actually, at least half of my classmates bring their laptops and type up notes during the lecture - it's pretty common at my school. A few of our instructors speak very quickly, though, so if you're trying to get everything down, sometimes typing is faster than writing.

For lecture in our school the instructor basically goes over what we should have already read and taken notes on as per our objectives. I sat with my notebook open and just starred everything she touched on and wrote anything extra (which was minimal) in the margins. Why rewrite everything we were already supposed to have written? (Speaking for my classmates, not everyone here on allnurses.) I like to listen to instructors and watch them when they talk and really take it in. Just my opinion. :)
