Honest opinions please. I have a dilemma. I was just offered and accepted a position in Behavioral Health at a local hospital. However, I am also in a RN-BSN program that meets Tuesday nights (my schedule is 3p-11p). I am unable to get in touch with the DON to inform her of this conflict before my start date.

Question is, Should I go ahead and take the position hoping to get a schedule that would allow me to continue attending class or wait for another opportunity? I'm conflicted.

Take the job and explain your school schedule ASAP. The sooner she/he knows the better.

This happens all the time, and Tuesday's not such a bad day to schedule around. They should respect your schooling- however you are at their mercy (if you put you work anytime on your application which I assume from the post you did).

That said, I would be really surprised if this doesn't work out, and doubt you have anything to worry about.

You graduated nearly a year ago and finally have a job and want to know if you should turn down the job offer because of a potential conflict with your BSN program?

My vote is no. Take the job,let them know you have this educational commitment, but if they cannot accommodate it, find another BSN completion program or switch classes to accommodate your work schedule.

Unless you are independently wealthy, you need a job to pay the bills. It's easier to find a BSN completion program that works with your work schedule than it is to find a job that caters to specific days.

I would go for the job over the class.

#1 Why wasn't this discussed in the interview?

#2 Why is the DON so difficult to get a hold of?

I smell trouble.

needless to say, i would take the job over the school, as we all know jobs are hard to come by these days. in addition, i would make sure that i leave a message to the don. however, i'm also a bit puzzled,as it was stated previously of why this wasn't addressed during your interview? by any means i do hope that you'll be able adjust your class schedule, without having to compromise your situation. wishing you the very best in all of your future endeavors...aloha~

Thanks everyone. I finally got in touch with her and it will not be a problem.
