2. That no, I CANNOT explain the risks and benefits of a surgical procedure, and NO, I do not consider it my responsibility to "remind" you to get consent on the day of the procedure. I can only witness the INFORMED consenting patient's signature.

also if that if its the hospitals policy to not take B/P on arms with picc lines, or post masectomy sides, dont yell at me for obeying it, and posting signs above the bed. Also dont remove the said sign and go to the boss about it. It will not help you. Another thing if a pt has irregular HR in the 170s for 8 hrs and a rapid responce is finally called, dont yell at the new grad, she was just doing her job. Hospital policy cant be overriden just because you say to not call rapid responce on any of your pts. I am a ICU nurse and am not afraid of you, neather is my boss, and you will be written up. Also I work for your pt. not you.

We do say these things, but it goes in one side and out the other, James. Believe me, working with residents sometimes puts us up with Mother Teresa.

Don't roll your eyes at me when I tell you I can't do a certain procedure...not covered to do it means it is your job, not mine.

Just correct the orders so I can go on my merry way, don't argue with me.

I am busy too. I am not calling you just to shoot the breeze.

When I do call you, please let me finish my sentences before giving me orders. It may very well be that the next thing about to come out of my mouth may change what said orders would be.

Do not call me while I am in the midst of doing something that you've already ordered (like an EKG) and expect me to be there instantly to do something else for you (like put more tape on the tape dispenser). Used to work with doc in comm. health that did this ALL the time. Grrr.

Please understand that I can only go so fast. If you want me to go faster, you will need to buy me roller blades.

Please take abdominal dressings off gently. It is possible to do it without yanking. Better yet, you can write me an order and I can do it. If it looks bad, I will call you.

And BTW, no, you CANNOT "have my job for that." This is NOT McDonalds, you are NOT my boss, and you may NOT throw temper tantrums in the middle of the hallway in front of visitors, staff, and patients.

Telling anyone to their face (docs included) when we have a beef with them is really the best way to operate.

I had to tell a doctor once, to stop the "slot machine eyes" when he rolled them at me. He wound up laughing his butt off. And he stopped doing that to me, amazingly. rofl. Just like a teenager that one.

HELP!!! I'm a new nurse and having a difficult time (frequently) with a particular cardiologist. Can I get fired for diplomatically telling him that the lines of communication between us are severing? That the ONLY reason I would talk to him is to determine some type of understanding of the care for my (his) patients and follow through. I want to run the other way when I see him. I am sick of getting yelled at and confronted in the nurses station by him EVERY time I try to talk to him. I'm ready to transfer to oncology. I heard that oncologists are more pleasant to work with.

That a fiberoptic IABP does not need to be leveled. Gee, I went to nursing school, and even I know that one.

If you don't want to be called in the middle of the night, just write the order "DO NOT CALL ME from 7p - 7a" and I won't bother you. When you come in the morning, you can like it or lump it what I've done to get your patient through the night.

Forget to order labs and x rays on your patient and get mad when I didn't know that's what you wanted. But, then when I do order something I think you'd want, you get mad about that too.

Complain to me b/c two other docs refused a patient and so now you're the consulting, I really don't care that you had stuff to do too...just take care of my patient.

I did not get my nursing license at K Mart. I worked very hard for it and my education. Just because I don't have MD behind my name does not equate to my being stupid. If I call to ask you something, I realize you have more knowledge than I do, that is expected, don't have an ego and rub it in.

Get mad when I do something you told me to do two hours ago...when you come back through, you want to know "who told you to do that?" I can't help it if you have short term memory loss and can't remember telling me to do something.

Please, if you make a mistake on an order and I bring it to your attention, just correct it and let me continue with my job. Don't argue with me for ten minutes and then change your mind and write what I suggested. You don't need to get all huffy when I dare to challenge your ultimate authority. I don't expect you to be perfect; I DO expect you to be reasonable.

PLEASE don't order morphine or dilaudid q2h!!! We floor nurses have several other patients and other things to do!

There is something called a ....PCA! Wow, that technology, I tell ya.

And for God's Sake, PLEASE don't order like the above and then also order phenergan q4h for your abdominal pain patients!

I gotta agree with a lot of these.

If I call you because your patient has poor UOP, Has a B/P over 160 (the call order you placed) then please don't get mad at me - YOU wrote the order......

22. That I do not know every doc in the hospital by sight and if come on to my ward, don't introduce yourself, have no ID on and start fiddling with the notes trolley I WILL challenge you.

And don't do the offended act on me, I don't have time to care about your hurt feelings!

I'm sorry but thats just rude. I dont know why you think its your responsibilty to play neighborhood cop on the ward. If all they are doing is grabbing a chart, then let them be.
