Where to get CPR training - Is Red Cross online and skills session acceptable?

Hello! I have been accepted into Hondros College for nursing. I used Red Cross online for a portion of the training. Tonight I go to the skills session to finish certification. After talking to the admissions director, I need to find out if anyone has used this for CPR certification and if it's acceptable. I was told to make sure it was taught by a rescuer or health provider. I am unable to get my phone call returned, so thought I'd try here. Thanks in advance! :wink2:

Congrats on your acceptance into nursing school. I didn't quite understand, do you need a full CPR certification course? I found a CPR course through the American Heart Association (americanheart.org). Under the training courses section, you can do a search in your area. I think you need the BLS for Healthcare Providers course; this is the one required for my nursing school. Not sure if it is universal with all nursing schools. Double check with your nursing school to make sure this is the course you need. The class is about 7 to 8 hours and you get certified for Basic CPR/Life support and AED (defibrilator).

Thanks! I finally got someone from Red Cross to reply. Hondros requires CPR cert. by a healthcare provider or professional rescuer. Red Cross does not offer this type of certification. So $50 wasted. I'll have to try and get in at the hospital or see if the fire department can help. Thanks again!

yes, i think the american heart association or the equivalent of it is your best bet, The nice thing is the bls for health care providers last two years and the recertification is only a 4 hour class every two years. but i don't think you can get training online because we really got a lot of feedback on the depth of our compressions and the quality of our breaths ect... Actually, you can do the theory part of BLS online now..then you only find someone to check you off on compressions. American Heart started this a couple of years ago...here's a link from American heart about the program: http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3019553

You do have a couple of other options. Go to : www.americanheart.org and type in your zip code and you can find local providers for BLS. Or as I told another poster, you can do the book part online then find a provider to just do the practical check-off for you. You'll still need to find a provider thru american heart but it allows you to do part of the BLS class from your own home on the computer.
