  1. This link might help as well. http://free-ed.net/sweethaven/MedTech/MedTerm/default.asp
  2. wanna b, Thank you for the words of encouragement. I'm starting 130 next month and I am a little anxious, but ready to start. I have been watching skills videos and reviewing nursing math to prepare. I wish you lots of luck in 131 and you remaining classes. Happy New Year!
  3. It may be difficult to find a job in a hospital since they require you to have 6+months of experience for a CNA. Most likely, you can quickly find a job in nursing home or some type of long-term care facility. Patient care tech will give you a wider skill set. I think you learn phlebotomy and EKG which would be a big plus for the hospital setting. Either one would be give you an advantage should you decide to further your career in nursing. Best of luck in your decision and job search. It is really tough out there.
  4. You may be better off checking with the unemployment office because they have to approve the program. Not sure what part of NJ you are in, but try Ace Healthcare Training Institute. They have a location in Dover and Union. I'm sure they are on the LWD's list of approved programs. But check with unemployment anyway, they can give you better information to suit your situation.
  5. Coffee&milk, Hope all is well. Here is a link for the American Heart Association: http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3012360 Search and see what's in your area. The cost depends on where you go for certification. I paid $89 for a class in Fairfield last year, but I was able to write if off on my taxes. Check around for the costs.
  6. I took CHE 105 without having high school chemistry or any chemistry knowledge in my background and got a B+ in the class. CHE 005 would help to prepare you for the chemistry for health sciences. But, in my opinion, CHE 005 was not necessary. If you are ok with math, then you should be fine. Just do what you feel comfortable with.
  7. Here a link form the American Heart Association website to search for classes near you: http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3012360 I hope this helps.
  8. Union County College/Trinitas does not have a entrance exams. As far as the wait list, once you finish the prerequisites, you have to be invited to the first nursing class. Its kind of like a wait list, but I don't think its as bad or as long of a wait as some other schools.
  9. There are some nursing homes that offer certification/training, but I am not sure which ones they are. Check with your state's department of health or board of nursing. Or check with some of the nursing homes in your area.
  10. Yes, you will need a scientific calculator for gen. chemistry. I also remember using it for calculating ph conversions. Its a good investment for your other classes where math is involved. I have a Texas Instuments TI-83 that I got over 10 years ago. You don't have to get the most expensive one. Just make sure it does scientific notation, logarithms and exponents.
  11. Good luck with your classes. I'll be in NJ for a few years. I start classes at Union County College next month. Hopefully by the time I finish, the ecomomy will be looking better. Please let me know if you need help with anything.
  12. I did the CNA program at Healthcare Training Institue and we did clinicals at Regency Grande in Dover. I was in the process of moving to North Carolina to be closer to family and go to nursing school there, but the ecomony is not working out in my favor. As far as my clinical experience, we were paired up with a CNA and completed the skills on our assignment sheets. Some of the skills we did were feeding, bed baths, showers, using the hoyer lift, toileting. I'm just giving you a summary. After that, we helped out where needed until it was time to go home. That being said, it was a really great experience. When do you start your clinicals?
  13. Did you mean South Mountain Rehabilitation on Springfield Avenue? The 70 stops very close to there or you can take the 25 but you will have to walk a bit from the bus stop. Also check the trip planner on njtransit.com to see what the closest stops are.
  14. It may even depend on where you go for your BSN. Research which schools you would like to attend and see what they require. Even if you just take Chem 105 for the sake of getting the ADN and go for the BSN later, you can take the required chemistry classes at that time. I think they recommend you take the chem combo so you won't have to take it later or if you go for the BSN right after finishing at UCC because of the articulation agreements they have with other schools. Just do what works best for you.
