what would you do advice please

Ok heres my thing and I may be jumping the gun here but cant help it...

I just got hired at a local hospital in the addiction recovery unit where lies much of my experience, however as you can tell by my screen name I have always wanted neonatal. I received and invite to come in for an interview at childrens mercy in the NICU pretty much my dream job. However I know how slow they are with their hiring process and chances are I will be working the new job before they would even make a decision.

I dont know what I am going to do if I get an offer. On the one hand the ARU job is much closer to my house, better hours,decent pay and a less acute atmosphere.

On the other the NICU is pretty much a dream position for me.

What would you do it seems like it would be rude to work a job for a short period of time and then leave if I got another offer. I know Im prob jumping the gun I may not even get an offer but Im thinking about it now because I dont think its a decision I could just make on the spot if I did get an offer.

Well, that is pretty much up to you. But if you'd ask me, I'm more on the practical side... the job that offers more benefit, and guarantees success. The way I see it, both jobs are within your capacity, so why not just choose the better?

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush or how does it go? If you accepted the first job, go ahead and start. If the second one becomes a reality, that is IF, then, just leave. They will understand. If you don't take that offer, you might end up with nothing and you don't want that in today's work environment. Good luck.

You know, when I start a job I plan on giving them a year, no matter how much I hate it (unless you are working in a loony bin type situation, in that case, run for your life.) I think that's fair, after all, they took a chance on you and spent time and money hiring and orienting you.

Also, are you sure you are going to like NICU? I always wanted to work ED, until I actually did. I knew the second day I hated it and that feeling did not change until I quit 12 months later.

This is usually I am as well I feel a sense of loyalty plus training a new nurse is not cheap....Its so hard though to imagine walking away from what Ive always felt Ive wanted to do.......I have to admit insurance will play a factor in this I have a medical special needs child one of her specialist is covered no matter which I would go with, Im not sure about other 2.

As far as other insurance issues Im pretty sure my pcp and OB wont be covered either way so it will be about deductible and out of pocket maximums.

I dont know I have alot to think about if another offer comes across the table. I just want whats best for my family.

Take the job you have but I would go for the interview. Who knows what will happen and you may find from the interview if it is really the job you want.
