What to do in the summer to prepare for 2nd level of nursing!!!

This fall i will be in my 2nd years of nursing school, yay 2 more classes and the end! ^>^. I go to HACC in PA.

This summer i don't know what to do to prepare for it. I heard it's going to be a little be harder.

It will focus on oncology, psychology, and etc... I used the Ignativacus Med/Surg Book 5th editions, Kneisl 2nd edition for psy, and etc...

if some1 have something similar to this curriculum, your tips are greatly appreciated!

I want to read some chapters to prepare but i don't know what to read.

The instructors just told us to have a good summer and VOILA welcome to 2nd level pretty soon.

Anyone in here have any tips for 2nd level of nursing?

2nd level of nursing varies from school to school. If you do not all ready have a job, I suggest you get a position as a nurse tech at a local hospital so you can become more familiar with the hospital arena.

What did I do? I obtained the syllabus for the next semester (medsurg). I enjoyed the majority of the summer and just studied for the 1rst test. But I really, really studied the subject matter of the 1rst test. So when I came back to school, I had a slight advantage.

Of course there's gonna be that 1 person who studies for the 1rst 3 test but I wouldn't. You don't want to get burned out.

I think that if you start off with passing scores, it's easier on your nerves to study for the following test. Good Luck!:D

see if your instructor will give you a mini syllabus. So you will have an idea of what to read for the 1rst test. Or ask one of the students who has taken the class before

When I was in nursing school I spent the summer in between working and kicking back the rest of the time, trying to enjoy my kids and life.

In our program, we're going to be doing psych and OB/peds. So I'm going to try to pick up some PRN time down on one of those units (I'm already an LPN at a hospital). I'm also going to do a little reading. Peds and babies scare me, their veins are so tiny. And if I ever had to do CPR on a child, I think they'd end up having to sedate me....

Refresh you mind and spirit. That is vital to success.

If you MUST look ahead, go to the school library to see what texts were used last year. The problem with studying ahead is you do not know what will be the focus and you cannot retain everything. I say wait till you are in class and take it one day at a time.

If you are not working consider being a camp nurse. A lot of camps hire students in addition to their usual RN's and it would be fabulous experience!

I am also a student nurse entering the last year. Our college makes us do 360 nclex questions in increments of 60 with a pass rate of 80% to keep us engaged. We don't get books until first of August. Then I'll start reading. This will be my last summer off with my kids. So we will spend quality time together.:redpinkhe

You've worked hard the last year. You've got another year of very hard work ahead of you... it'll go fast though! Kick back and relax while you have a chance. You may not get another chance to do this in a long time. After you graduate will will be studying for NCLEX and then working.
