Nurses General Nursing

Hello everyone! I'm currently attending Valencia Community College in Orlando FL and only 3 pre-requisites away from applying to the Nursing program. As many of you may know there is a waiting list for it and I don't want to wait a year. I've already feel like I wasted 2 years of my life becoming a Medical Assistant and I don't even work in the field. I'm 26 years old and a single mom and quite honestly I don't have much time to waste. I love the healthcare field and it frustrates me the fact that I wake up every morning feeling helpless because even though I can taste the success I'm not quite there yet. I want to wake up in the morning and actually feel happy to go to work. I have been out of the medical field for 2 years now and I have tried to apply for MA positions but they won't even give me a chance!

One of my classmates mentioned to me about Florida Hospital College of Health Science and it got my attention. I was thinking of finishing my 3 pre-requisites at Valencia and then enrolling at FHCHS. Is it true that there is no waiting list for it? And about how long is the program? Is it a good school? I wanted to attend a good reputation school since my experience with my previous school for MA wasn't so good. I had to start fresh, my credits wouldn't even transfer to Valencia. Everyone's input will be greatly appreciated.

I think if it means you won't have to wait a year and you can afford it, then you should go to the new school. You will be working that much sooner and that will make you happy. If you don't get a two year degree from this nursing school, then you can always get a degree later. Good luck.

The only way to know for sure about the specifics is to call the admissions dept. of that school and find out the scoop. Leave all options open. Good Luck!!!:nuke:

hey! i feel your pain and understand your frustration. your story is very similar to mine. i attend miami dade college and i am now in my first semester of nursing school. (finally!) one myth that most college students believe is that there is a waiting list for nursing programs. i believed that for a long time until one of the advisors from the nursing school explained it to me. im pretty sure that valencia and miami dade go thru a similar process in accepting students. since the amount of ppl trying to apply to nursing programs is so high its impossible to keep students on a waiting list. chances are you will end up waiting for years to get into the program. if you are not accepted the first semester you are required to reapply for the next semester. the only time students are put on a waiting list is when they are in the group of students with the highest gpa and its only until the program begins. YOUR GPA IS THE MOST IMPORTANT WHEN GETTING ACCEPTED INTO A NURSING PROGRAM. my gpa was 3.47 and i was 1 out of 8 students called at the last minute to get into the program (2 weeks before classes began).

what im trying to say is, just make sure your gpa is atleast a 3.5 when applying into the nursing program and you will be fine. also apply to as many schools as possible. be patient and know that you will reach your goals. also speak to advisors in the nursing schools. students do not always have the right information. GOODLUCK!

I can tell you without a doubt it's an excellent program!

Florida Hospital is very good especially their college, however, also competitive and thus they do not pay very much after you finish, just a lil FYI. A friend of mine with 5 years RN experience and 15 years LPN experience started there at $23/hr. Seems low to me for Orlando. But she said its due to competition to work there and they have a constant source of new blood with their nursing college.
