I used to work 11a-11p and now I am going to 7a-7p. My other job is from 6a-6p, so I usually get up at around 4:30am. My 7a-7p job has about a 40 min commute. I find it really hard to eat at this time in the morning and right now I'm forcing down some yogurt. I also do not want to miss up the opportunity to eat because I might not get that chance once I get to work. From my experience in the ER as a night shifter, people start trickling in around 0600-0630.

So, what do y'all eat in the morning? I'm thinking about eating on my 40 min commute but I really don't want to stop anywhere, so I'd like something portable. I also like to eat something a little more hearty as my first meal of the day - eggs, bacon/sausage, toast, some fruit, etc.

I like to eat bacon and eggs with avocado before I have clinicals. It keeps me full for a few hrs before I have to snack.

If I'm too tired to make it, I'll eat a large bowl of cereal. Unfortunately, I get hungry fairly quick, though.

Do you have a muffin tin? Stir up some eggs in a bowl add a little milk, cheese, crumbled bacon or ham Veggies and bake at 350 for about 10 minutes. Grab and go breakfast.

Oatmeal and a glass of orange juice is my breakfast of choice. A breakfast like that can hold me until a very late lunch.

Even if you are not that hungry, don't eat in the car and stuff anything down. Life is too short for that.

If your hospital has a cafeteria, go to work a little early on the days you want the full cooked breakfast. Sit at the table, pay attention to what you eat and enjoy every bite.

I always eat turkey sausage (store-bought or make your own and freeze it), a banana, and a serving of cashews or almonds. Or I will have 2 whole grain waffles with PB and a banana.

Costco has these awesome healthy Mexican chicken breakfast bowls that are great. They have high protein, high fiber, and are under 400 calories. Definitely lasts me till lunch, even if I'm running around all morning.

Now that's a good idea. Gonna need to try that

I like to eat a hearty meal too. It's all about making time to cook for me. I sometimes choose the snooze button over morning cooking! When I do that, I try to always have boiled eggs on hand. I also keep a box of breakfast sausages in the freezer at work to pop in the microwave when I get there or on my break.

I also love the egg muffins from nom nom paleo similar to the ones above. You can think about cooking bacon the day before too.

I make a smoothie with chilled green tea, blueberries, raspberries, kale and vanilla protein. You won't taste the kale and the protein powder adds bulk. I am not hungry for food in the morning, but I want something healthy to start my day.

Nothing like a nice bowl of steel cut oats with blue berries, pecans and almond milk

Cup of hot grey tea and a bagel with cream cheese and tomato . keeps me full half of the day.

I am not hungry until I've been awake for hours. I have an hour drive in, so I drink my coffee for the first 30 mins or so, then force down a protein shake before I pull into work. If I'm nauseous (often, because I'm exhausted) then I wait till I get report then go chug it in the break room before I get started. Lately I've been drinking Shakeology. It's the bomb dot com.
