To relocate or stay put?

It sounds like Az is the way to go. But please do a pro and con sheet on each place

I go to Az. For a variety of reasons...you could sell or rent your Wis. home if you choose but either way, it sounds like you are already leaning to AZ. I would be too.

The pension is a vital factor in Arizona as is my wife has family there she misses very much.

Arizona also pays 6 dollars per hr more than Wisconsin. although there is more traffic to deal with.

Sounds like the pros outweigh the cons as far as going to AZ. I'd rather work a county job than LTC :) Good luck!

Sounds to me like there's way more pluses (sp?) to the Arizona job -- given what you've laid out here, that's the job I would choose.

I agree with all others. Move, move, move. I'm in a similar situation, live and work in NE WI in LTC will have my BSN complete in May 2012 and will be looking to relocate then, there is no job growth where I am and LTC is not that satisfying.

It seems like you have all the reasons to move to AZ so go for it. I'd been there. Hot weather, but most of the times, pretty nice. There is no growth in LTC unless that's where you want to be in the long term. You've been an ED nurse, I am, too. I don't think you'd be happy in LTC for very long. Good luck to whatever your decision will be.

It's only REALLY hot about two months, then just hot another couple months, then it's ok here the rest of the year. It's actually freezing a couple months too (at least for a SoCal boy like me).

It would depend on where in WI and where in AZ. I lived in AZ for 7 years, and you couldn't pay me enough to live in the greater Phoenix area. Now, if it were at altitude or perhaps down in Tucson, perhaps.

And WI - I would stay in a heartbeat if it were the Madison area. Otherwise, nah (I lived in MN for 30 years, so I know WI pretty well too).

Hah! I beg to differ. I guess it depends on your definition of "really hot" but I consider mid-May through September to be pretty unbearable, at least in Phoenix (now, Prescott or Flag is another story).

OK... you liked AZ...family there....winters don't s*@k.... WI- decent summers (spent a LOT of time in WI, being from IL), green, a LOT of cows , but the winters can make a polar bear grumpy from the temperatures. :) Pros in AZ sound good.... job in WI sounds less than ideal... JMHO, but reserve the U-haul :)

And dry heat IS different than the humidity in the upper midwest (folks in the hot states don't know how humid it can get :) They just know what they have seen- which is the same for us northern people getting used to the friendliness in the southern states :) Don't know what they're up to with all of the hospitality!!! LOL). But an oven is an oven at times... TX could get to the 120s in the summer (those temps on TV are shade temps) but everyone has AC, so that made it tolerable

I went to TX 6 months out of school (from IL)...stayed for 17 years, then came back for family reasons....family reason died (major bummer- now what was I doing here with a lease signed....)....have tried to get back for years, but health tanked. I regret not going when I could- am glad I was here for my dad when mom died- but after that, it got lousy.

You can always come back to WI- but if you don't go to AZ, will you always wonder "what if?"

(buy stock in a sunscreen company- LOL)
