To give credit to the show ER (part 2)

Nurses General Nursing

Published

We all have spend the last couple of weeks, maybe months about how bad a job ER does of portraying nurses. Especially Dr. Romano. Now we all now what happenes to you when you treat nurses like crap. God will drop a helicopter on you and you will be killed.

All you Doctors out there better take that as a warning!!!!

(Just joking, trying to lighten up the mood about ER a little bit)

I really did enjoy that episode, it was one of the best I have seen in a long time. Not because they killed the jerk, although they did there best to make him seem like more of an a$$ the last couple of episodes, so nobody would miss him. It was just very good. Nurse/Medstudent Abby really pulled herself together and did awsome.

Gave up on ER about 5years ago when it turned into a soap opera the first two seasons were really good and somewhat accurate potrayal of a busy ER which is what I enjoyed I really don't give a crap about whos doin who etc.

That's funny!

I hate to admit it but I actually like ER and was a little sad to see Romano go... yes I hate him too, but he was just so unbelievable(sp) that it was entertaining to watch him go off. This show is purely entertainment, even tho the general public doesn't see the inaccuaracy. I, even as a LTC nurse, has to laugh at the innacuracy. Yep this is the only soap opera I watch... I wonder what all the cops say about CSI and Law and Order???

:chair: I like ER too :chair:

Sure, it's innacurate on many levels, but it's still entertaining to me. And I'll miss Romano too. He was a jerk that I just loved to hate. :)

i love er. i am watching it right now on tnt.

i for one am glad romano is dead. i hated him. our luck someone pushed him out of the way right before the helicopter crashed on him and that person is the dead guy underneath, romano probably got knocked out and rolled under something and hasnt woke up yet - lol

i got carried away trying to think of ways theyll bring that a$$ back. all tv is is crazy unexpected stuff:chuckle

I work in law enforcement now, and going to school to be a nurse. I can tell you, most of us LOVE Law and Order, especially SVU, the cops on there come across as pretty real and the bad guys don't always get what they deserve, which happens A LOT. CSI on the other hand, most cops HATE. Its entertaining to watch, but is just NOT REAL. Crime scene techs do just that. View the crime scene and gather and collect and sometimes analyze evidence. They do not interrogate suspects, kick doors down, and they sure as hell don't solve impossible crimes in less than 60 minutes.

The bad thing about this show is the public has totally unrealistic expectations. They get their wallet stolen, it turns up later with a hair on it, they want us to run the hair for DNA. A few problems, one, DNA testing is too expensive to use on non-violent crimes, 2nd, the state crime lab has a two year backlog on violent crimes, so it takes next to forever to get a case together.

So just like with ER, it's TV doing what they have to to get ratings and draw an audience. I k now it's fake, but it's TV, it will always be there and people will always have a false sense of what goes on.

While I like to watch ER on NBC, I REALLY love watching Trauma: Life in the ER on The Learning Channel (TLC). Now that's pretty real.

My husband (also a nurse) won't watch because of the inaccuracies -- but I find it immensely entertaining. There are times I LOVE the smart ass remarks the nurses make to doctors and annoying patients, and I fantasize about being able to do the same.

And yes, I'll miss Romano. He had some GREAT lines!

Yep, ever since they left the pt on mag sulfate in the er and had her die without EVER turfing her to OB, I have been suspect BUT that doesn't mean I don't watch it...On Seventh Heaven for heavens sake, it was all about telling Matt Camden medical student that doctors shouldn't be social workers, its the NURSES who are the hand holders ( although he did have to borrow a nurses stethescope that was cheap, pink and with a cutie do dad on it) and the reason the diabetic died was because he didn't tell some nurse to go get her something to eat...Who in the world do they think they are, anyway?

I love to watch ER too. I hated to love Dr. Romano, but it really shocked me when they dropped the bomb (or in his case a copter) on him. I think I'm going to miss his smart remarks. I think I was more moved by the possibility that Dr. Lewis's ex-boyfriend (the flight nurse) might have bit the dust. At least Dr. Carter is getting his groove on in Bosnia or where it is he's at.

Despite the inaccuracies, I LOVE ER!!!!!!!!!! :D

I actually liked Dr. Romano...remember when they used to show the nicer side of him? Like when Lucy died...when he talked to Peter Benton's son in sign language (while Peter's head was turned so he wouldn't see), and his love for Elizabeth Corday? Deep down, I think he was a good guy...he just liked stirring the pot. ;)

They really did make him out to be an a&& this season though.

Anyone ever think it's funny how he lost first his arm, then his life in helicopter accidents?

I actually missed this episode...grrr. I taped it, but something happened to either the vcr or tape, and it didn't tape!! Ack!!!!

I found a good site with very detailed recaps: http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com

Very cool!

Long live my baby daddy Doug Ross!!!!!!!! :roll

I have to admit that while I hated Dr. Romano, I always liked to turn on the TV every thursday, just to see what crap he is pulling this time. I think its just one of those Love-Hate relationships. I'll miss him, but I am also very curious where the show is going form here.
