you read an & study medical terminology right before bedtime. last night i had a dream that i was a nurse.:yeah: i was caring for a baby (which fits b/c peds nursing is my dream... no pun intended) and i was working in home health, sort of, it was my house:). in the dream, the baby woke up in pain and vomiting. i was talking to the baby and telling him everything i was going to do and why. i told him, "i'm going to give you 1ml of tylenol because i have standing orders. then i'm going to call your doctor." i was so nervous about making my first physician call that i wrote out a script. “baby woke up at 0100. sx are crying and vomiting uncontrollably. i gave him 1ml tylenol and i am calling for further tx.” i called the doctor and his wife answered. i was so nervous i forgot the doctor’s name so i just said can i speak to dr. smmhhmmhmm. i started reading him the script i wrote and literally said “s.x. and “t.x.” instead of the words. it’s bad when you embarrass yourself even in your dreams! he told me only to give the tylenol. i said “he’s clearly in acute distress. he needs better pain meds. i have to advocate for my patient!” lol it felt so real and i was loving it!

has anyone else literally dreamed about being a nurse before going to nursing school? do you remember anything about it? did it convince you that you were heading down the right career path? or is this just further confirmation that i am a weirdo? :D please share. thanks!

:nurse:I say apply NOW!!!! We need you. Good luck.:yeah:

I'm in my second semester of school and I had the WEIRDEST dream the other night after studying for waaaaaay too long. I had a dream I was working in the med-surg unit at the hospital in town. All of my patients were LITERALLY on index cards in a file!! There head and torso were on these big cards and as I flipped through the cards they would tell me what they needed.

SO WEIRD!!!! LOL...

:clown:

When I was in my first year in nursing school, my husband said I used to talk about all of the medications, their classes and what they did.. etc..when I was fast asleep. He said I would walk around the room and act like I was "teaching" someone about their meds...:D

I'm so glad I don't remember my dreams :)

I dream all the time when I'm on "studying binges" Last week we had a GSW simulation and I dreamed that I was the charge nurse during the simulation and went through the whole thing in my head, and the pt lived! Too bad the next morning I was running late out the door, showed up 15 min. late just in time to draw positions- and drew a complete blank of EVERYTHING I knew to do and the pt died.

People that have waited tables will tell you they have 'server nightmares' where they are pretty much running an entire, completely full restaurant - all by themselves!

I am in an ABSN program and also a CNA...and I suffer from 'nursing nightmares' :) I have the entire (super-busy) med/surg floor (65+ patients) all to myself. Yikes!!! :lol2:

I love it! Your dream totally made me laugh out loud. ;)

I recently had a dream that it was my first day at work as a family nurse practitioner. I didn't know what to do, and I kept telling my coworkers "I only just started nursing school... this is way over my head!" But they kept assuring me that I would be fine, and they started bombarding me with patients. The first lady I saw just came to me and said "I need a prescription for Tylenol." I didn't know how to write prescriptions, so I started writing a grocery list for her and I put "Tylenol" on the list (followed by "eggs" and "cheese"). My next patient was a parrot. It walked into the exam room, and I said "Hi there little guy, what's wrong with you today?" And he opened his beak and made a loud bird call and then I woke up. It was so strange, but in a way it was so cool... It felt awesome being in that role! Hopefully that means I'll be a FNP one day (or maybe a veterinarian.... ) ;) LOL

I dream all the time about work... I am a female, but once dreamed I'd had a trans urethral resection of the prostate! Another time I dreamed I had undergone a total hip replacement... couldn't move when I woke up!

But my main recurring dream is showing up at the wrong hospital, in the wrong country, on the wrong shift, wearing the wrong uniform...

Another involves caring for my five assigned patients until the end of shift, when I realize I have six!

Eek! And I have been an RN since 1987...
