Soon to be Grad ... When do I apply?

Nurses General Nursing

Greetings from the snowy Hudson Valley, NY.

I will be graduating this May and finally getting my RN after two years of sweat, tears, and sacrifices. Is it too early to be applying to hospitals for their new grad programs?

Also, do you mention anywhere in your cover letter or resume that you have been accepted to a BSN/MS program or leave it out?

Also, can anyone view my cover letter and resume with constructive criticism? I can send it to you privately. Thanks all!

I can't answer all of your questions but I'm graduating in June as well after 2 years and I've been applying since December. I may not get anything until closer to graduation but I don't care..as long as they see my name and resume over and over again, maybe they'll get sick of me and finally call me in for an interview! :)

Good luck and congrats!

I would start making phone calls now. Call the nurse recruiters for the hospitals that you are interested in applying to, and find out information about their GN programs. Ask them when they will post the job opening on their websites, and ask them what they are looking for to set candidates apart from one another (some look at volunteer work, GPA, HESI, etc).

It is a good time to start getting organized, and find out what you need to do and when. In my area I think they start accepting applications in March/April. One of the best hospitals in the state was pretty sneaky and posted the job for only 2 days, a month earlier than when they said they would. So only the ones who kept on top of it were able to interview.

Good luck with everything, and congratulations!

Start applying now! However, accept that many places may not be interested in you until you pass the NCLEX so you may not hear back from a lot of your applications. But don't let that stop you: definitely get your name and face out there.

Im starting my 2nd semester at FMCC so I won't graduate till May 2012 But I would love to know what they think about you continuing your education.... Im going to continue on for my BSN immediately and Im wondering if that will be frowned upon during the first year after graduation. So keep us posted and Good Luck!!! FYI Ive been advised that we should start applying while in our last semester so I definitely think you should start now. And congrats on being soooooo Close
