Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am currently an RN in the state of Florida and would like to obtain my Texas license to travel there. Im married and am expecting a baby.

well here is my situation. it asked if i was ever in jail or diagnosed with mental disorder.

well i have been to jail but it was bogus and the case was completely dropped. there was nothing to prosecute. then to make matters worse my wife and i got into an argument and when i was talking to a psychiatrist and venting he diagnosed me with Anti-Social Personality disorder (which i do not have) and am currently in the process of removing it. no mental treatment was needed

i am very profecient at my job and get good reviews from my Charge and Nurse manager.

when i apply for my license will it show that i was in jail but no charges were every filed and will that diagnosis show?

it shouldnt? shouldnt it? since it never went to court and the other is protected by HIPA right?

should i just check no on both of those boxes when applying?

What you've got here is a group of legal questions that need to be asked of a lawyer specializing in medical issues (malpractice, licensing, etc).

Anyone here can tell you anything, and none of it should be relied upon: this is the internet! Opinions are like bellybuttons: everyone has one. And all of what you find out on this forum could steer you wrong.

Find yourself a decent lawyer, and ask him or her these questions. Get a firm understanding of what you need to do, and how to proceed, to best protect yourself and your family, legally.

Best of luck to you.

Questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

* Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?

* Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a MIP, DUI, or other related charges?

* What happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?

* Can I go to nursing school and/or be licensed if my record has been sealed or expunged?

* Will I be able to go to nursing school with a criminal record?

* What can happen if I receive a MIP/DUI/DWI or other charge while still in school?

These are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. The only reliable source of information is your State Board of Nursing.
