Shower Set Up ~ What does tht mean?

My father has a nurse who does "shower set up" for him. At last that is what his bill says. Before I embarrass myself, would someone tell me what this is? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Setting the DME and personal care supplies in place, assisting your dad into the shower safely, stand by assist, promotion/maintaining highest level of indepdence/function.. Versus performing mod/max assist transfer and bathing.

I imagine it's not a "nurse" providing this service but a CNA/HHA.

I think you should clarify that with the CNA or the agency, it will be part of your dad's plan of care.

Having worked in home health, I would think it means his aide gets everything ready for his shower, and then he actually showers himself. Most likely the aide will do other things such as cleaning while he is in the shower so as to be close by as needed. That is what our aides did. But yes, if you have questions, it will all be spelled out on his care plan.

There are seven levels of bathing/shower assistance...

• 7 = independent
  
• 6 = modified independence
  
• 5 = setup/supervision
  
• 4 = minimal assistance
  
• 3 = moderate assistance
  
• 2 = maximal assistance
  
• 1 = total dependence
  

I underlined the setup/supervision category because this appears to be how the home care company is going to assist your father. Setup means the attendant sets up the equipment, soap, towels, wash cloths, and anything else that is needed to complete the bath. Supervision means the attendant is standing by as your father showers himself.

However, you need to clarify with the home care company. Good luck to you.
