Question about Pre-Employment Screening

I have a question for any and all of you.

On July 2, I went to a LTC to sign some paperwork, stating I accepted my potential job responsibilities, blah blah blah. They then sent me for a very brief pre-employment physical and drug test that day. Here it is July 16, and I am anxiously awaiting to hear from them, so I can start work.

There is no reason for the testing to come back negative. And yet I have heard zero....it is making me nervous.

Anyone else ever have something like this happen or have to wait long amount of time until they called you to start work? What should I do?

Why don't you just call the person you interviewed with and ask? Just say you haven't heard anything from them in a couple of weeks and you wanted to check in to make sure everything is still on target so you can plan for when you will start working there.

I did actually, I called and got her voicemail yesterday. I guess I will call her again tomorrow, hopefully I will get to speak with her.

Did you mean to say that there is no reason the testing would come back POSITIVE?

LOL yes, there is NO reason the test would come back positive. Damn Freudian slips and anxiety, lol. Let me just hide my meth pipe...

I would wait until Monday before you call back. That will give her enough time to check on your paperwork and return your call.

Maybe she has been busy or even misplaced your paperwork. They don't necessarily have to be waiting for the drug screen. It could be your references or background check holding things up.

In the past, I have never been told the results of my drug screens. So just because they haven't contacted you about it, doesn't mean there's something wrong.

If you don't hear from her by Monday, call again. Let her know you just wanted to check the status of your application packet. I once waited almost a month before calling an employer about my new job, which she pretty much told me I was a guaranteed hire after the interview. It turned out that the human resources department misplaced some paperwork, disrupting the flow of my application process.

Things happen, so no news doesn't have to mean bad news. :-)

Thanks. I just get a little panicky when its been over 2 weeks for a job, especially when I am caring for a parent with cancer (lost the other to cancer on Thanksgiving) and bills are coming in more than my income is going out. Just have to not get too tense.

If it is through the HR dept. it can take a while. Good luck

Does anyone know what the general policy is for scheduling a drug test? I know they generally give you a week to schedule, but is that one week from the offer of employment or from your acceptance of the offer? I know it's different everywhere, but what have other people experienced?
