Preceptor gift

I am female and have a male preceptor. Should I get him a gift? If so, what would be appropriate?

I gave my preceptor a gift (female). I am a new grad and I feel like she pretty much taught me how to be a nurse in 9 weeks ;-) It really is nuts how much you learn when you start to work. I got her a nurses goody bag.....lip gloss, hand cream, dunkin donuts card, multi-pack of gum, and a pack of her favorite pens. For a guy I would think something with a gift card or something maybe with his favorite sports team? You really can't go wrong with something coffee related. :)

If I didn't know a lot of personal info, I'd go with either a restaurant gift card, or if you know he likes coffee, one of those (I hate coffee so wouldn't know what is good, bad, or pond scum).

If you know he likes music, iTune gift cards are nice... If you know of something else he definitely likes, something related to that...

nice of you to do that :)

Restaurant gift card?? Can't go wrong with that.

Yeah, I was trying to be nice :lol2:

i didnt get my preceptors anything. not that i didnt appreciate all they did for me, i really do, and i was sure to tell them at the end of my residency and since i still work on the same unit I still tell them often how much they've taught (and continue to teach) me. i opted not to get them a gift though, i had 5 different ones and besides, they get an extra $2 an hour for precepting. it's not much but it does add up when you spend 36hrs a week precepting for a long time, it's like a 10% raise!!

I am a male and if you got me like a coffee mug with my beloved New England Patriots on it oh my Id always have your back.LOL

I'll be in transition in a few weeks and am appreciating the suggestions. Keep them coming!

I'm a female who had a male preceptor and at the end I gave him a gift card from his favorite restaurant. I had asked the other nurses for advice and that's what they suggested--he loved it. I also gave him a nice thankyou card.

You might consider asking the other nurses what he would like:)

I had a female preceptor for my refresher course, I gave her a gift bag that contained pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and a woodwick candle. Oh, and one of those silly "hoops and yoyo" cards that has audio to it when you open it up! :)

I thought not having to deal with my bs was enough... ;-)

Nah, I got him a card and said some mushy stuff... Funny, because neither of us is mushy. But I appreciated everything I learned from him and the tremendous help he was in getting a job on that unit.
