Had employment screening for my new job today, got the ppd. It is red and swollen right now, and I am super worried. I had one this past summer and it was fine.

My question is, for a positive ppd, who pays for the chest xray? I assume its my responsibility not the employers? I dont have any health insurance right now. I am hoping it goes down in the next 2 days, but I am nervous. I must have been exposed at my previous job.

Usually the local or state public health office picks up the tab from there.

You shouldn't have to pay for anything.

To ease your mind though, mine always looked different the first day or so depending on who did them, and how deep they went.

I bruised one time and that sucker hurt!

Specializes in ER/ICU/STICU.

Could just be a reaction to the injection. Wait the 48 hr period and then get it read. Your looking for induration, not redness or swelling. If you don't have health insurance contact your county health department and they will give you or refer you somewhere to get a CXR.

That happened to me once and I was scared to death. Turns out it was a local reaction and was gone by the time the 48 hour read time came up. Try not to worry until you have to!!

If your employer won't foot the bill for the cxry if one is needed, call the local health dept. Good Luck!

It looks so much better today! It really looked bad yesterday red and swollen. Today you can barely see it, so I am sure by tomorrow it will be gone! PHEW! Scary!

It is very itchy though, wonder if I am allergic.
