Nurses Week Gifts

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Looking ahead to National Nurses Week. I am an RN and work for a health care advertising agency. Clients are already asking us for advice on National Nurses Week gifts/rewards/recognition. Thought this would be a good place to ask..."what was your best?" and/or "what was your worst?"...

Thanks for your feedback and ideas....

Last year they did something everyday- on one day the hospital hot shots washed all the nurses cars in the parking lot!!!

Personally, If I never see another tote bag with a hospital logo on it I will be thrilled! I shouldn't be so critical, but if everyone at work has one you can't keep up with who's is who's.

We have an awesome recruiter who has been aggressive with our nurses week.

We had Breakfast day where the Administration and Managers go from unit to unit pushing a coffee cart and handing out a variety of breakfast foods. (Even Healthy ones)

We had cake & punch receptions at 2pm & 2 am

We had Karaoke in the cafeteria- 2 shows 1pm & 1 am (Managers came in in costume)

On last day, handed out gift vouchers for a local uniform shop to pick out a new lab coat. I would have liked a gift cert. for a bookstore or restaurant too.

It makes all the difference when night and days are both recognized. Our managers and our Directors worked hard, and it meant a lot to me.

By the way.......Happy Nurses Day 2006, just in case we don't talk again

for last 2 years we have gotten throws and duffel bags with logo. we wondered if they thought we wouldn't notice 2 yrs in a row-not very creative to say the least..... i think a nice warm-up or vest with lots of pockets, in our choice of colors of course, with logo would be excellent, and would be welcome if they repeated next year...

we got tote bags, duffle bags, and lunch bags. i have serveral of each now. try to give something you haven't just given for christmas!

That's the best one I've heard yet!

I have always used my own money to take the nurses out to a nice restaurant for lunch (hired pool to cover), gave flower arrangements and a personal thank - you note to each nurse with something that I appreciate about that person; for CNA's I buy Chinese food and we do raffles. I am not independently wealthy, I just care that they always get something from me personally. Last year I was sick during all the festivities and the nurse managers got gift bags for all the staff and filled them with personal items that they knew they liked. We have a relatively small staff, which makes this possible. It's nice to know your staff - they are so cool! :balloons:

My best gift was a pair of bandage scissors. I probably shouldn't complain but, I get a little tired of the insulated lunch bags and totes.

ANYTHING but food. The icky cafeteria food that we avoid every day doesn't taste any better, even when the CEO is in the kitchen dishing it up.

I think raffles are good- the mere chance at a free day off, or a massage, etc. would be way better than some cheapo trinket. Lord knows I have enough pens/flashlights/stethoscope id tags/keychains/etc.

I am not an RN yet, but the techs are included every year.

The best: Nice little daypack(small backpack)

The worst: cheap plastic coin purse (like the kind from a gum machine!)

One year we got nice beach chairs, which I thought were great. But the next year, the hospital gave them as an incentive for good service to lots of people. I think they bought too many. I have three of em now...need a chair, anyone?

:wink2:

A lot of compelling and interesting responses!! Very helpful...thank you!!

When our hospital was moving to a new facility and they were tearing our old hospital down, we got ornaments with the Day, year and logo. I thought that was nice, especially since I had worked there over 20 years. I've got lots of bags, lunch bags etc. I enjoy coffee cups. We always have a nice luncheon and food is provided for all 3 shifts. It's interesting to read other ideas for Nurses day rewards.
