Ng tube feeding- aspiration

Hi I am a nursing student. I am here with a doubt regarding ng feeding... In our ward while giving NG feeding we aspirate the content before each feed. Sometimes aspiration comes... That time whether we need to aspirate all the content out or when we see aspiration we need to stop aspirating? I asked many senior nurses they given 3 answers so I am really confused. Please help me know the correct one.

1; need to aspirate full content and need to wash the tube by a small amount of water

2; stop aspiration immediately. No need to wash with water

3; stop aspiration immediately. need to wash with water

In this which one is correct please help me.

What has your research demonstrated?

what does your med surgical book and instructor teach?

I couldnt find any related topic in my book.. And unfotunately my instructor also not providing a proper answer with reason

never heard of having to aspirate all the content just for ng feeds, all i know is aspirate some, do a ph test, confirm placement, feeds commence.

Going way back when we used to aspirate, I think it was aspirate over 60ml (100ml ?) was flushed back and the feeding was delayed. And then clear the tube with water.

You aren't discarding the aspirate, right?

No here they told need to discard the aspiration content and should not push it back..

Checking for residual isn't as common practice as it used to be and we don't do it in the home as regular practice but if

someone is telling you to discard gastric residuals, you should refer to your facility policy and speak with your clinical instructor.

The problem is I am working in maldives. And we dont have much facilities like us/europe. We doesnt do ph of gastric content. As that facility is not available here in our hospital. Hope u will understand the situation.. So u r telling me while I aspirate before giving feed if aspiration coming means I just need to stop n give feed after sometimes rite..

I'm not giving any instructions. Can you look up publications with EBP to guide you in lieu of facility policy?
