newly qualified - struggling to find work, please help

Nurses General Nursing

Published

hi all,

i am due to qualify in sept, and i have been very let down, 3 hospitals being close to me, closer than my placement base. each of which promised me work,

the first one on later questioning said they had no work but had previously said that once i had filled an appilcation form in which was 'just a formallity' they would give me an interveiw.

the second one gave me an interveiw, telling me that there were numerous posts available, to which i found out today there was only one, and hence i didnt get it

the third one said they had positions in all departments only to have 3 posts, to which i have an interveiw

i need some tips for an interveiw, what are the latest buzz words, any ideas?

I now have put in an application form in my home trust i know it was later than it was suppost to be but its been over a week now and i have not heared anything, i want to enquire but i dont know what to say, any ideas?

and finally has anyone newly qualified worked for an agency? what was it like? did you manage it ok, did the lack of perceptorship affect you?

lots of questions i'm sorry, but am a little stuck and getting very scared now, thanks for your help

You guys are cracking me up this morning...;)

I totally agree hospitals move verrrry slowly...I have been miffed at an application sitting around for months on HR's desk. And it has ended up being due to an individual's disorganization coupled with the insitution's disorganization and politics!! LOL!

Be persistent, patient and polite, and followup. You will find something. Generally agencies don't hire new grads in my parts; the work is too dependent on a 'hit the floor running' ability.

Recruiter: So, what makes you think you'd be a good addition to our staff here?

Nurse Applicant should respond with this statement:

What makes you think I wouldn't be a good addition to the staff here based on all the other nursing students you've interviewed?

Turning their question back at them is soooooooo much fun! I've done it many times, and they tend to get "tongue-tied". :rotfl:

Then, wait for her/his response...........stillllllllll waiting........

Did that recruiter forget how to speak or what? :rotfl:

That would be sooo much fun if it was a job I really didn't care too much about getting. Turn the tables for a minute. Too funny! I love it! :roll
