I am contemplating having a thyroidectomy.. I have an enlarged thyroid gland (goiter) yet my thryoid results are all in the normal range. Goiters run in my family, yet I dont have a definitive reason WHY other than hereditary...my physician stated that i could have a partial thyroidectomy as the left side is markedly enlarged (as opposed to the right)...has anyone had this surgery, and can you please advise on what I can expect...i feel a pressure in my throat similar to a sore throat sometimes withi a burning sensation...ive been living with this for a long while now, but as i age i can really see the growth, and it scares me!! oh - i did have a biospy this year, which showed non-cancerous.....:sniff:

knowledge is power.

and i'm very relieved to hear it is non-cancerous.
