Let me just say that this statement does not apply to me. However, I think with as wide spread as alcoholism is you could probably make this statement about any profession or occupation. I would enjoy seeing the study or know where the op's friend obtained this information.

Statistically firstborns are more common than any other family placement. Simple math. Every family that has a child has a firstborn. Not everyone has a second child, and even fewer families have 3, 4 or more. So the further along you are in birth order, the fewer there are of you, statistically.

    First born.
ETOH father who quit drinking before I was born, but was frequently absent due to his job.
    Very interesting observation.

Spooky stuff! I'm first born, female & ETOH Dad & food abusing Mom who now abuses her scrip meds.
Even my husband noted that we all functioned like alcoholic families, always covering for the alcoholic parent, managing things at home. And my Dad is still alive & kicking & drinking at age 89.

1st born...VERY dysfunctional family lol. I raised my brother and sister... Never thought about the psychology of it till now. Thanks for that! Not only do I now suspect I may be dysfunctional now as well, I also have a good topic for my next psych paper!
