Missing something when doing chart checks

Hi

I work nites and I have been a nurse on a med surg floor for 5months now, but about 3on nites. We do chart checks on our 6-8pts a nite. I have missed some labs that should have been scheduled for early AM but put in for noon, and I have missed some other small things all were caught by experienced AM nurse and I fixed them before I left. I still get upset at myself and have a hard time to get over them. My nurse manager has not mentioned them not sure if she knows or since they were fixed it is not a big deal but it is for me.

I have competancies coming up next week I am very nervous. Any suggestions except slow down and learn from my mistakes. Thanks for listening

Bring it up on your own to your manager, and ask for advice on how to limit those mistakes. That can make a good impression, since the manager likely knows or will find out anyway.

It shows you are serious about improving your performance. And you will probably get some good advice.

I agree with the previous poster. I also know that it takes some time to really get the hang of chart checks. It can seem overwhelming at first, but you will get the hang of it. Just try and go step by step with the orders to make sure they were all done. Don't try to rush through it, you may skip a line and there goes your lab that you missed. Sometimes it happens, it happens to the best of us, we miss orders, but that is exactly why we all do chart checks. We do it to make sure nothing was missed. Don't be hard on yourself, just do what you can to improve. :)
