The follwong story was told to me by a male psych nurse about the time back in the days when we Australian nurses wore veils (YES! I wore one but breifly). It seems that in the psych hospital where he worked, the nurses were trying to slowly "get rid" of the veils by leaving them off at teh weekend and then expanding theat time to fridays and mondays. The DON (in those days - Matron) sent out a letter stating that ALL registered nurses were to wear veils while at work. WEll, this wag of a guy borrowed a colleagues veil, put it on and then marched up to the Matron where she was standing surrounded by VMO's - handed the day report to her and walked off. She could not say a thing as the memo had stated "All registered nurses". They won - the veils came off- permanently.
But for us even in the days of the veils the guys just didn't wear anything................................ on thier heads!

The pinning disscussion reminded me of a question I'v always had.
Back in the days of white skirts and hats what did the few male nurses wear? I know there werent many but did they wear hats too?
