LPN to RN

i am currently an lpn and am in school now to get my rn. (i'll have my aas in nursing in may!!!). has anybody recently worked as an lpn but is now an rn? when i finish school i'll have had 6 years of lpn experience. do employers consider that nursing experience to be hired in a hospital? thanks!!:redbeathe

I was an LPN for eight years before I got my BSN. It think it definitely helped me to have that nursing experience in so many areas to get a better job (better hours/higher pay) right off the bat, instead of having to work in the trenches of a hospital for six months to a year.

I can only respond to your second question: in our facility HR has a formula to allow RN's with experience (including LVN experience) to be hired at a higher base pay. Congrats on your accomplishment!!!

First off, congrats on your accomplishment! You should be proud of yourself!

I was an LPN for 8 years before I got my ADN. I did get a higher base pay than traditional ADN grads. Some places its like 2 or 4 years of LPN experience = 1 year of RN experience.

I was an LVN for four years before I earned my RN license. Some hospitals in my area will credit a new grad RN by offering a slightly higher starting pay rate if the person has LPN/LVN experience. Some places will issue you a year of RN experience for every two years of LPN experience that you have.

I think it just depends who is interviewing you. I had a few people who I interviewed who were either LVS's or worked with really good LVN's and took my LVN experience in account as experience as a nurse. Surprisingly there were much more people who thought that my LVN experience didn't count at all. In my opinion, I think it has helped me be a better RN and I also think that nursing (CNA, LVN, RN) are all great experiecne in the feild of nursing.
