  1. Well, first you have to apply at the Board of Registered Nursing California. After the application is reviewed you will get a letter saying which other courses you have to take or if you have been granted to take the NCLEX right away. Good luck!!
  2. Interesting thoughts. Thank you for sharing them. I also think it is very expensive and my husband and I have a lot to talk about.
  3. Hi everyone,I have only found old information from 2010 and 2011 in this forum, that's why I am starting a new one. Here my story:After graduating in May 2012 from an ADN Nursing Program I was lucky enough to start working one week after passing my Boards. I am doing Home Health with a staffing agency. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and it is really difficult to get into a hospital. Not in the field I want to do, but hey, it's a start. I just found out that I am admitted into the ADN to MSN CNL at USF!!! I am beyond exited!!! BUT (and here is my question for you all):This program is very expensive, $55 k for everything. I am married, a mother of two children (6 months and 3 years) and we have a monthly mortgage to pay. Not to forget the ridiculously high amount of money we spent for preschool. I know, I know, I knew that I would have to pay for school before applying, but I just want to know what options are out there. Any current student at USF who can tell me how they afford this? Scholarship searches don't get me very far because I am neither African-American, Hispanic or any other special group. I am the first in my family to graduate from college though.Any tips? I heard about the stafford loan. Do I have to pay that back right away or start when I finished my studies? Any Grants out there for ADN to MSN? And how did you apply. Was it easy to get? How about Loan Payback Programs at your work - who offers it?I am looking forward to reading all of your answers and thank you!! And FYI, moving is not an option due to my husbands work.
  4. Never write Dear Sir/Madam! Find out their name - that will show that you are really interested and that you took some time to find out their name (call H&R). Goooooood luck!
  5. what clinical are you having? Maternity, Peds, MedSurg, Psych? That would help to know, since the advice depends on that :-)
  6. I was about to recommend the Grey's Anatomy scrubs. These are super comfy and they usually fit nicely on the top. Did the top not fit you? You can also go to http://www.lifeuniform.com/LifeUniform/Women_Scrubs.jsp?bmUID=1282880915201 I don't know where you live, but the actual store is close by to my house, maybe to yours too? They have a huge selection of scrubs, shoes and everything else you need. Good luck!
  7. I am still speechless.
  8. Make sure your BON accepts Excelsior! California for example does not, so be sure to check their website. Good luck!!
  9. We don't get reviews at all. I am at a very good nursing school at a community college ASN program. Like I said, no reviews, but the exam questions are in NCLEX style. Sure, the instructor writes her own questions, but if you study questions you can figure out easier which one the right answer is. Most of our questions are critical thinking questions. Of course, the "Success" books are external questions, but the content is the same! And those books help you understand the content, since they show some cases from a different angle then you Professer taught you and help you so better to understand the contex.
  10. Well the Success books are questions - so generally I read the book, go over the matching study guide book and then do the Success questions. These books are great, because they have different chapters, meaning you can only answer questions for postpartum, or only for newborn ect. Even if I have the question wrong it gives you a great rationale WHY it is wrong. Hope that helps
  11. I am in that class right now too: The "Success" Books really help!! Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/Maternal-Newborn-Success-Applying-Critical/dp/0803619065/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1300296011&sr=8-1 and http://www.amazon.com/Pediatric-Success-Applying-Critical-Thinking/dp/0803620586/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1300296045&sr=1-3 Good luck!!
  12. I am in a bridge program in San Francisco, CA. They do require only three courses (OB, MedSurg and Psych), BUT like most schools you have to fulfill prerequisites and one course is usually 12 units. So no piece of cake.
  13. I don't think you can do that. You have to practice under your highest license, which then would be RN. Maybe someone else knows more about this?
