Just to see if this can be beaten.

What is the lowest H&H you have seen.

Mine was last night. Hg 3.1, Hct 9.:eek::eek:

Specializes in Emergency.

How scary--what was the situation for why it got so low?

I myself hemmorraged with a miscarriage a few years ago--my hg was 4.7 or something like that. Needless to say I went into shock a few times before given 4 units (I think? It was all a blur)and rushed to surgery. It's kind of sad now that I can't donate blood any longer--plus when I got pregnant again I delveloped some weird antibody and had to have my titers checked every week.

Specializes in DD, Geriatrics, Neuro.

Hg 2.9 Hct 7.4

That was my mom when I took her into the ER the week before Thankgsgiving. She was still walking upright and talking....barely. And before they got the lab reports back the staff was wondering why I was acting like a rabid family member "insisting" that she get treatment for a "heavy period" NOW. She ended up with a D&C, Lots of NS, and three units of packed cells.

We don't know yet. I was charge, so I didn't have hands on with the pt. Stool for OB was neg. She got 4 units and was up to 10.4. She has psych issues, so can't give a stright answer.

BTW :- I'm glad you were ok yourself. :)

I am actually a Med Tech who works Blood Bank and changing to a nursing career and I worked all night one night crossmatching units for a patient with an H&H of 1 and 3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Specializes in vascular, med surg, home health , rehab,.

i had an elderly malnourished lady with an Hb of 1, forget the crit; appear from being whiter than the sheets, she was alert. Had med students coming in to gawk at her as no-one could believe she could be alive with an hb that low.

Every time I think we have reached a lethal level I get another supprise. I wasn't really expecting to be beaten by much.:bow:

Specializes in Cardiac, ER.

Many years ago I worked for a group of Onclogists,..we gave chemo in the office,..many pts were as low as Hgb1 ,..walking, talking,...it's amazing how the human body can learn to adapt!

Specializes in ER/ ICU.

ONC patients labs are always out of whack. My Dad is a CA patient and, when on TX, had a WBC count of 0.5. H and H were of course low- 4.2 and 9 but it is still workable.Scary, though
