Labor and Delivery Interview Questions

Hi, I have an interview on the 31st of January for a large hospital in my area in their L&D Unit. This is why I went into nursing and I want the job so bad, BUT I have a huge problem getting through, confidently, the interview process, and theirfore end up with jobs I don't like or want.

I graduated 2 years ago and am an RN. Have been working LTC since then. I really want to be prepared and have been studying. Does anyone have any good advice for me? I would really like to know some questions they might ask, typical for the type of unit, not just typical interview questions.

Thank you in advance for any advice, and especially interview questions, so I can be as prepared as possible. I am so excited and want to do great!!!:nurse: I just need a little help!

I wish you all the best. I think you should keep studying, keep practicing the interview with someone live or in the mirror. Keep reading up on interviewing. Get your wardrobe, hair, etc. all together now. I think you'll do well.

I've been working LTC for a year. I recently went for an interview in L&D. Its been over a month and I don't think I got the job. I still have a job I like so I am fortunate to have that, but working in OB is my dream job.

Be prepared to have a good specific answer to 'Why you want to work in OB". I stumbled on that question and I think that's what killed my interview, even though the rest of it went very well. Come with tons of questions. My questions were covered by the interview in her information about the job, so I also messed up there too.

Best of luck to you and I feel OB is a very hard area of nursing to get into, even to be considered for an interview in my opinion is good. lol

I bet you one of the first questions will be "Why do you want to work in L&D?" and they may ask other things like "What qualities do you have that will make you a great member of our team?" or "Why did you choose nursing as a career?" and "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" ...I've been asked a lot of those questions before. Just have an idea of what you would answer with and BE YOURSELF!

One vital bit of advice that my aunt gave me was to shake hands with your interviewer when you meet them and remember to SMILE and make EYE CONTACT ...but to too much that you look creepy! LOL. Also, it's perfectly OK to, once you sit down with your interviewer, say something like "I just want you to know that if I seem super nervous, it's because I am!" You may share a chuckle and break the ice that way :)

P.S. Look up the hospital's mission statement and try and learn about their L&D unit. It may help you with those "Why would you be an asset to our team" kind of questions...

Hi Kooky,

I just wanted you to know that you CAN do it!! You are awesome and they would be lucky to have you. Remember that right before you go into your interview. I also struggle with nerves and what has been helping me in interviews is to practice questions, out loud, verbally- saying them as if I am talking to the interviewer, with a friend or family member. Just keep practicing every day.. that way if your nerves take over and you just start rambling, the chances are good you'll be saying something meaningful that you've practiced.

Above all though I think RELAX and know that you are awesome. Let us know how it goes!
