  1. Wonderful, thank you so much for your response! Just as I thought... I would truly love this :)
  2. I'm wondering what a typical day is for an RN working with midwives (CNMs) at a free standing birth center, not a hospital birth center... anyone have any experience or currently work at one? Preferably a birth center that also provides complete prenatal care and well woman care. Thanks!
  3. Thank you so much, this will help a lot I think. I will let you know. And CONGRATS on the job!!!!
  4. Hi Amandah How did your interview go? Any tips for a new grad with an OB interview in a few days? :)
  5. Hi Kooky, I just wanted you to know that you CAN do it!! You are awesome and they would be lucky to have you. Remember that right before you go into your interview. I also struggle with nerves and what has been helping me in interviews is to practice questions, out loud, verbally- saying them as if I am talking to the interviewer, with a friend or family member. Just keep practicing every day.. that way if your nerves take over and you just start rambling, the chances are good you'll be saying something meaningful that you've practiced. Above all though I think RELAX and know that you are awesome. Let us know how it goes!
  6. Thanks for the advice. The other job is ALSO a new grad residency program, but in the field I'm interested in- maternal/neonatal health. The other one is med/surg. So it's between two new grad residencies, one in med/surg 45 minutes from my house, the other in OB (my passion) 5 minutes from my house. Without the timing issue, it's a no-brainer for me. I must say to clarify that I will NOT be pulling out after starting orientation, I would be pulling out about 2 weeks before the start date. I would not do that.
  7. Let me ask another question- Should I be honest with the employer that offered me a position and tell them that I need another week to decide? My fear is that they will retract their offer thinking I must not want it that badly... I realize this is a great problem to have! And I very much appreciate any advice for my little dilemma. Thanks.
  8. Just to be clear, I haven't signed anything as of yet. Which is why this is hypothetical. And I very much do care about the integrity of my name and want to do what's right for me while still being honorable and respectful of the facility that I do not take the position with, which is why I am seeking advice. I have two different interviews at hospitals with new grad programs; I would prefer the second one, but realize that it is a great opportunity if the first offers me the position. The problem is the timing. I know that this is about as far as the advice can go without actually being in my shoes- so thanks everyone for your responses!
  9. Hypothetical scenario: new grad, offered residency position, accepts. Signs contract stating that he/she will work for hospital for xx amount of time or pay $x amount. new grad get's offered another job, dream job in fact. They pull out of the new grad residency BEFORE orientation begins. Do they still have to pay $x amount? hopefully that makes sense
  10. Hi, Does anyone know if I'm obligated to pay after I've signed/accepted position but BEFORE I've started the actual program? I'm asking because I've accepted a job but do have another interview on the table of a job I may be taking instead. Will I have to pay if I haven't even started the training yet? Thanks
  11. Unfortunately it is REALLY hard here. I am a new grad as well that relocated here and I wish I had known. I don't mean to discourage you- you never know you could get lucky, but it's really rough. I've put in probably over 100 applications to various places and just can't seem to break through the wall. I've known several new grads that have relocated to Texas and have gotten jobs right away. Good luck!
  12. I am wondering if anyone has any leads on ANYONE hiring new grads in the Denver/Boulder area. I know currently Hospitals are a long shot, I'm looking for truly anything. I would love to work at a hospice place, if anyone knows of any that are willing to hire new grads. Any info is much appreciated.
  13. Hi Selke, I know this post is a few years old.. but I wanted to know how you liked working at Marian in the L&D department? I am a new grad, I have applied to their L&D. I live in Denver but my husband and I are thinking of moving out there because it is so hard right now in Denver. I am just wondering what the hospital is like and how you like/liked working there. Thanks!
  14. WOW, ok thanks. It just sucks when you aren't even good enough to get an interview
