1. Usually I feel like I can lay down on a slab of concrete and sleep for days. But lately it is hard to go to sleep at all or I wake in the middle of the night without hope of going back to sleep. (such as tonite, last night rather). I know Im stressed. Or more stressed than usual, lets say. Could this be the reason? Is there anyway to "cure" this without meds. Ive tried relaxation, food and milk.
    And tylenol PM.

I'm with you nurse2002. I took 5mg of Ambien about 3 hours ago and I'm still wide awake.

If you figure something out, let me know.
I might have to ask for 10mg of ambien.

What about a warm, relaxing bath? You don't need to walk, either, you know? Just run around your living room, do jumping jacks, whatever, hard cleaning...occupy your body. When you're tired, take a break, then jump up and do it again. And again. After 30 minutes of this, go to the bathroom, light some candles, turn off the lights, play some really soft relaxing music, run a bubble bath, sink to your chin, and chill out. I also use lavendar bath stuff, and lotion (Aveeno lavendar and vanilla baby lotion is the best!) and go for that extra aromatherapy kick. Maybe that would help?

Try this one - Breathe in hold breathe out hold. When you breathe in tense all you muscles. Wehn you breathe out relax all your muscles. If that doesn't work a large Sherry/Port does it for me.

I've been plagued with insomnia for the past 2 weeks, until Saturday. I slept 11 hours Saturday night and 9 last night. I hope the siege is over, i hope i hope. I have no clue why I couldn't sleep, or why I finally slept. I know I was getting so cranky I couldn't stand myself

I go through this too, especially when work is crazy!

If the warm bath with a book and cucumber melon candle doesn't do it, I have a small glass of wine.

some weeks, just truck on with a few hours of sleep, feeling sorry for my family and coworkers, and say "I'm sorry" alot for my grumpyness.

Benadryl helps me, about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs before bedtime. Then I turn the thermostat down real cool, turn on the fan for quiet noise, and put on my CD of Rain and Thunderstorms. I try to read my current book I'm working on, but rarely make it one page! I periodically have a hard time sleeping, and this usually helps. Hope it helps you.

by the way for anyone who doesn't know, 90% of the OTC sleep aides including tylenol PM are nothing but diphenhydramine (benedryl) read the labels! Don't buy the expensive stuff! I had used benedryl off and on for a while, and finally asked my doctor for ambien, ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE STUFF, I get the 10mg, but most of the time i only need 5, i take it about 1-2 times a week, and get MUCH needed, UNINTERRUPTED, RESTFUL sleep.
If you take the ambien and still aren't asleep then you aren't tired!
