I am an LPN student and I have an assignment to interview two Nurses. I would greatly appreciate if one LPN and one RN would answer the following questions:

  • What is your educational backround?
  • How many years have you been practicing and what are the various roles you have worked in?
  • How is professionalism incorporated in your role as a nurse?
  • What advice would you have for me as someone who is just beginning my career?

I am currently unemployed and do not know any nurses on a personal level to interview. It would also help to have your name and place of employment. My instructors would like some proof of who I am interviewing. Thanks so much!!!

What is your educational backround?
I attended a 12-month LPN/LVN program at a private trade school and have a diploma in vocational nursing.

How many years have you been practicing and what are the various roles you have worked in?
I have been practicing since February 2006. With the exception of a few months of working at a small psychiatric hospital as a part time medication nurse, I have spent virtually all of my short career in nursing homes as a charge nurse.

How is professionalism incorporated in your role as a nurse?
I'll have to think further about this question. Basically, I try to pretend to have concern for every issue presented by management, families, coworkers, and patients, regardless of the petty nature of the issue. That might have sounded terrible, but it's true for me.

What advice would you have for me as someone who is just beginning my career?
Try to not lose the compassion for your fellow human being.

  • I have been practicing 23 years. I've been a charge nurse on an oncology unit, a home hospice
  • nurse, a psych nurse, med-surg nurse, ED nurse, occ-health nurse, and administrator of a home
  • health agency
  • How is professionalism incorporated in your role as a nurse?
  • I treat every patient as if they were my family. I try to educate them and their families to
  • enable them to actively participate in their healthcare. I advocate for my patients.
  • What advice would you have for me as someone who is just beginning my career?
  • Never be afraid to ask for help with procedures you feel unfamiliar with.
  • Always make a positive identification of your patient before you do anything.
  • Find a mentor.
  • Be helpful to others.
  • Question question question! I've found that "just because we have always done it like this"
  • doesn't necessarily mean there isn't a better way. Just be diplomatic and have constructive
  • suggestions, first.
  • Know you'll never achieve perfection so strive for excellence.

Why not go over to your local hospital or nursing homes and meet some nurses and ask them to do this brief, easy interview? Just go introduce yourself to a couple of nurses, managers, the DON (director of nurses).

You might acquire contacts for future employment if you do.
