How to use an Aero Chamber with a vent patient

One of the things they DIDNT teach in nursing school. Illustrations or a video would be great. Forget Youtube they had nothing to cover this topic.

We don't administer the respiratory meds at our facility, the RRT does them all. If I recall correctly (from checking in on patients when receiving tx) they can hook the chamber up to the tubing running from the vent to the patient, just prior to where it attaches to the ET tube. Honestly I've never paid that much attention to it. I'll have to pay more attention next time!!

Make sure you are using the 'Aero Chamber MV' and not the regular Aero Chamber spacer used for non-intubated use. It's an inline spacer with a port for the MDI (without the mouthpiece holder). Typically you would actuate it at the beginning of the inspiratory phase, although so long as it's inline on the inspiratory side of the circuit, the timing isn't critical.
