I have done #3! I did this when a pt, a nice older guy, rang his call bell. I answered via intercom and he asked for some fresh water in his pitcher.

I think I'll do #2 tomorrow! ;)

Lots of threads regarding burnout abound. You will glean much information from those. Good luck!

Like the other posters said, try keeping work at work. It is hard sometimes. My job is intertwined with my off work life. I am friends with a lot of the people I work with and we talk often outside of the hospital. I also have friends who are not in healthcare. I have other interests so I am not always thinking about work. You can bet when I am on vacation I do not go in to "see what is happening." This website has been great to help discuss issues with other people who understand what nurses and others in the healthcare profession go through. Plus, this site is always good for a laugh. :D

rebelwaclause, you are my hero! Thank you for posting those!

How about walking up to someone and saying, "Do I have something on my teeth?"

One nurse friend of mine used to do this when waiting in a line that was moving too slow (true story here). She'd stick her hand down her pants and pretend that she was pulling something out between her thumb and next finger. Then, she'd pretend to throw it at the person in front of her in line. She'd keep doing this until she was first in line.

You're right, rebelwaclause, sometimes you just have to do something insane to keep your sanity.
