Hello, everyone! Do you think how to be an excellent nurse?

I will enjoy any opinion from you.

The best nurses I have worked with were:

1. Compassionate

2. Not afraid to admit if they did not know everything

3. Calm during times of crisis--from code situations to low staffing

4. Willing to help others

I don't think that the label excellent should be used. Each one of us is unique and offers different talents to the world of nursing--the manager who understands this and works this to the best of the floor is the one who I would want to work for.

I think that anyone of nurses who want to become an excellent nurse must have healthy body and mind, first of all. And then, give the patient the best nursing.

Nurses need inquisitive, intellegent, creative minds, the patience of Job, and a kind heart. Some suspicion is necessary, quick wit and assertiveness (if not aggressiveness) is a good thing. Common sense, above all else, is necessary. Thick skin and the ability to communicate your needs will help.

A sense of humor is imperitive! ;) :clown: :chuckle :lol2:

the best nurses i know take care of their patients as if they were members of their own family, one of our docs told me if you treat a patient they way you want to be treated you can never go wrong good advice then good advice now

I pretty much can wrap up what I look for in a good nurse and mentor in 3 simple words: (yea they all know I am simpleminded here): They pretty well encompass what you need to be a "good nurse" to me.

Compassion

Competence

Professionalism

Oh and it sure does not hurt to have a GREAT sense of humor. You need it to stay afloat, definately.
