I really need to turn of my phone :lol2:

Seriously though, every other day when I'm off I keep getting phone calls from work or from people I work with (whom I never given my number to) asking me to work a specific day, switch shifts with them etc. It's soo hard to resist a $200 bonus to come in for a day but I really want my day off to relax. It's hard to say no to pleading co-workers, especially when you are new, but then again half of the time I'm already working on that day because work asked me to pick up an extra shift and I can't switch. The past two calls I just didn't pick up my phone, listened to the voicemail but never called back because I didn't want to/couldn't work. I feel like it's kind of a waste of time to call back just to say you can't work but maybe I'm being rude? I don't want my supervisors/co-workers thinking I'm rude by not calling back but I do find it intimidating to call and say no&I really don't want to get suck into working.

I'm sure you guys experiance the same thing. What do you do?

My husband and I have private cells with unlimited minutes between us. They are not published, as all cell numbers I believe are unlisted. My work does not have my cell number and I also screen my calls at home. That's the beauty of caller ID . I don't see my family a lot d/t the shift I work, so I don't answer the phone when they call ;).

If I don't call back, I'm not coming...PERIOD!!!! so that is that!

If I call back, don't waste my time...if you're calling me over a issue then solve it before I return your call....call me back you jerks!!!!

I get enough of the place in 3 days I don't need more exposure.

I got to the point where I would very seldom switch with anyone, after doing favors for others who would not return the favor for me.

I stopped doing overtime when my NM refused to give me a personal day to go to my uncle's funeral.

Before I was a traveler, I used to get called to see if I could come in almost EVERY DAY I had off. It got to the point where, if I didn't want to work, I would change my voice mail to say "I can't come to the phone right now, and am not available to work today." Then I don't have to deal with calling back to tell them I can't work.

My sister does this and IT WORKS! She doesn't have to talk to anyone and she doesn't have to feel guilty for not calling back.

$200. bonus for coming in on an off day? I've never worked anywhere where a bonus was given for anything. That's pretty generous!

I do understand not wanting to come in, though. A boss called me on my day off once and said "Wanna come in, and make some extra money?"

I said "I would pay good money not to come in today."

Luckily, she had a sense of humour.

I check caller ID, and if it's work, I turn the answering machine off so they can't leave a message.

If it is my employer that needs me it is understood that I do not have to return these types of calls. The know that unless we call back the answer is no.

On the other hand if someone is calling me to switch days with them I do return the call to let them know even if the answer is no. I do this because they may be waiting on an answer from me and needing to know one way or the other. I figure some day I may need them to switch with me and the least I can do is return a call even if I can not switch this time. It is just common courtesy.

I don't answer.. I let them leave a voice mail and then I decide if I'll call them back or not. Once they called me off for low census, and 2 hours later they called me back asking me to come in because the one scheduled to work didn't call/show. I was butt deep in Anatomy and I didn't call back. I needed the time to study.

Just like kids/teens regarding drug use and peer pressure, like a previous poster said "just say NO". I use caller ID or am actually not home most of the time they call. On the rare occasion I am not near my caller ID phone and I do pick up. I just say "No" with no excuse or reason tacked on the end of the "No".

I work the amount I want to and usually not more. However I am very helpful in that I haven't had a sick or "mental" health day in over 18 months.

Boy if my hospital had a $200 bonus for coming in extra more people might do it. It wouldn't necessarily make me do but it might on occasion.
