Health Care Research

Really sucks. I'm taking it online and I find it so mind-numbing and irrelevant to the things I find important it's all I can do to spend any time on it at all. My grade in the class reflects that: I've got a C. I'm taking four other courses and have an A in each of those. I also tested out of gerontology with an A.

I've got to start doing better in this class. Does anyone have any wisdom to share about health care research? This week we are talking about theory and research frameworks and clarifying research design.

No advice. Just sympathy. I just took it last semester for my NP program myself and it was agonizing doing that reading:nurse:

The semester will go by quicker than you think though. Hang in there:)

Unfortunately, its a required evil! Ugh - I have a friend who loved research and currently has a research position and loves the numbers and sitting at a computer, etc.. Ugh is all I can say!

Pick a topic relevant to your clinical area that you are passionate about. Then, as you read the boring material, try to imagine how that information would apply to the topic you feel passionately about. Imagine how a well-designed research project on that topic could help the patients you care about, etc.

Relating the material directly to a topic you really care about may help it seem more relevant to you -- and less like a waste of time. I'm sorry the teacher isn't doing a better job of helping you to do that.
