Do I need to do all the prerequisite first before I can take RN classes? Or can I do both at the same time. Because all the RN classes are full! I live in NJ. I have A and P I and II. I have a biological science degree. Are there any schools in the NY, NJ, or other areas that allows student to enroll and complete the prerequisite during RN classes?

you woud have to check with the colleges you want to attend... i would get them all first because nursing school is very time consuming and you wont have much time to think of other classes...

what schools are you looking into?

I am interested in schools that will allow me to take A and P 1 and 2 at the same time I am taking RN classes. I want to start RN classes soon. If I can enroll, in Spring 2009, I will be very happy.

i would call some of the schools in your area and look at their websites to see if they will allow you to do this.... my RN program needed all the prereqs first ... but look into the schools in your area and keep me posted.... good luck in your schooling ...

I took all my prereq first for the LPN program. My daughter is in the RN program she also took all her prereqs first.

Are there any school that offer a combined A and P 1 and 2 in one semester?

Some schools do offer a condensed AP1 and AP2 in one semester.

You will not find a RN school that will allow you to complete PRErequisite courses at the same time as nursing courses. A prerequisite by definition is something that must be completed before hand. A corequisite is something that can be taken at the same time as nursing courses.

The reason why you see the RN classes listed as "Full" is because colleges close these sections off. Not just anyone can register for nursing classes-- only students accepted into the nursing program may register for nursing classes and competition for programs country wide is pretty fierce.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but almost all the deadlines for spring 2009 start have passed..... Even if by some miracle you were able to complete all your prereqs this upcoming semester the very earliest you're probably going to start is fall 2009 if not spring 2010...

It sounds like you don't have a very strong grasp of the process of applying to nursing school. I strongly urge you to set up a meeting with an adviser in the nursing admissions department at schools you're interested in. They should be able to guide you, let you know about deadlines and courses. I know it can be difficult to wait-- especially when you're so motivated and want to start now now now--but building a strong foundation in prereqs is essential to understanding material in RN courses.

I wish you good luck in your schooling-- contact an adviser they're your best bet for help in the tricky to navigate process of nursing school admissions.

Can I start in summer 09?

Most schools don't start nursing courses in the summer. Most programs are usually fall and many offer January starts as well.

I can not tell you if you can start in summer of 2009. I can not tell you if programs you're interested in even offer summer starts and if so what you would need to complete by when to be eligible. The person who can tell you all this information is an adviser, and that's why I will again strongly urge you to go talk to one in the nursing office today. They will have much more reliable information for you than strangers on the internet.

You have gotten a lot of good advice here. Nursing education is quite different than other disciplines. Every school has their own requirements and can be fairly rigid. My school had a very long list of requirements. When I documented the efforts I made to find an ethics class pre-req (none met their standards) they allowed me to take it with my nursing classes. However, other people were not allowed to do that who couldn't document similar effort.

Nursing school is pretty demanding and I'd not recommend taking extra classes at the same time even if they allowed it. If I had known that, I'd have tried to take even more classes ahead of time. I was so jealous of the people who had taken pharmacology before hand! I hadn't known that was ok with my school. Those people had such an easier time.

It's important, as other have noted, that you know the requirements of schools you are interested in. A prerequisite is just that - a requirement that must be completed before starting a course or a program. Some students think courses are prereq. when in reality, they are support courses that may be taken with nursing courses.

I not only completed all my prerequistes before I went into nursing school but I also finished all my General Ed requirements. When I started nursing school I didn't have any other classes I had to take.
