Have anyone of you ever attempted Nursing school more than once??

I found out that I did not pass Geriatrics out of all things! It would not be so hard if this was not the last semester. I feel like someone died, that's how bad I am hurting. I know in my heart this is for me, so I will continue to persue my dreams of becoming a nurse. It's just so depressing. So, what gave you guys the strength to carry on?

I am so sorry. I know how bad that feels. I am in my 1st semester again after going to nursing school 21 years ago for 1 and 1/2 years. This time around I did not make the pharmacology drug final by 90% so I had to drop Pharm and Intro to nursing as a result. It felt horrible. What I did was reapplied and got right back in for this Jan. I feel that nothing can stop you and that it will all make you MORE determined if this is what you want...and it sounds like you really want to be a nurse. What do you have to do at this point? Can you take the class over? If that is the case then just get back on that horse and pull the reins harder. You will be at an advantage because alot of it will be a review. Nothing can stop you if this is what you want. And PLEASE remember that this in NO WAY makes you a failure. You have worked very hard and have achieved a WHOLE LOT- that makes you a WINNER no matter how you look at it. I know you are overwhelmed at this point with all kinds of emotions but just look at the BIG PICTURE and go girl!! You can do it...DO NOT STOP!!! Just hold your head up hi and do it...GOOD LUCK!!!! Please let us know how you are doing and write back,ok? BIG HUG to you!!!!!!:heartbeat

I am also a returning student who did not do so well my first time around. I am now in my third semester. Nursing school is hard when everything is good but when you put other forces into the mix, finance, family etc it can be overwhelming. You can do it!!!!!!! I will be praying for you!!:saint: Good luck

Hey-

This is my first semester and my first time through BUT I have to say that the situation you are describing is REALLY NOT that new! It happens all of the time in my program. The profs are very encouraging and would urge to try and try again!

Good luck! You can do it!

TY4Life,

Been there...and this too shall pass. I didn't pass my final by 1 point and realized that I wasn't going to graduate with my class. That was May 2007. Like you, I felt like I was mourning. However, what helped me move on was talk to those who also had to repeat a class. One classmate told me, even though it sounded a little harsh, that it is not the end of the world. Others go through worse situations and it is nothing compared to failing a class. Yes, I did feel like a failure. But failure is giving up and not trying again. You came this far and it would be ridiculous to give up now.

I always believe that things happen for a reason. As a matter of fact, the second time around I got better grades and I understood the material better. Even in my clinical rotation I was more confident. You will persevere and this experience will make you stronger.

Best of luck to you! :nurse:

I can tell you from personal experience - it CAN be done. I went to nursing school and didn't pass my third semester (of four). I waited a year, got myself together and went back. I graduated a year and a half ago, passed boards with 75 questions and have been working as a tele nurse ever since. It can be done.
