Guilty feelings??

Nurses General Nursing

Hello all! I rarely post but I do read on the site often. I was wondering if anyone has ever been in this situation. Some background---I work on a very challenging tele med/surg floor with a step down unit. I've been on the floor for about 5 years now and dearly love most of my co-workers. The patients and demands can be difficult. We've recently had about 5 nurses quit.

Im currently on maternity leave and due to come back to work in about 3 weeks. During maternity leave I decided to apply for a job in labor and delivery. The nurses were so much happier! I finally got a call for an interview.

I feel guilty now for even considering leaving my original floor. Has anyone else ever felt guilty about leaving a job?

You do not owe your previous unit ANYTHING. You also do NOT "dearly love most of my co-workers." You dearly love your baby.

Make the move that works for you... no guilt required.

Agree with BTDT. Left a job one time and expected two of my co-workers to keep in touch. We all had each other's phone numbers and talked outside of the workplace on occasion. Never heard a word from either of them again.

Yes, OP, I have.

I also have dearly loved many of my coworkers, who are still good friends to me for over 20 years. However, you can't stay in a job for anyone else. You have to do what is right for you and your family.

Enjoy the cake they get you when you leave, and Congrats!
