Hello all,

I have been a RN for the past 6 1/2 years. My first RN job was in the Emergency Department. I worked there for approx 7 months, then went into home health. I worked home health in the field for 1 year. Since then I have been in the office setting dealing with home health. To make a long story short, I am now getting ready to start NP school in the Fall. I am trying to get back in the hospital setting so that the experience can help me through NP school. I have applied to several part-time/prn jobs but so far no reply. I need help because I am really trying to work only 2-3 days a week while in Grad school. Seems like working in home health has really decreased my chances of getting prn work. I know I will need orientation, I am willing to do this. Any suggestions???:nurse:

Indeed.com is the best, because it pulls from all the job sites.

It depends on what area you are in. In my area most are looking for current acute care experience in the past year. Even in LTC.

Maybe agency nursing in different area hospitals?

Do you have any friends that work in acute care and could give you the name and number of their manager? It sometimes helps if you can bypass HR.

What about PRN home health?

dance4life,

Yep, Indeed.com is my newest best friend. I have applied to multiple listings, the process is just taking a little longer than I expected. Thanks for your reply.

Mom to 4,

Unfortunately, I tried the local agencies. They are looking for someone to just jump in on any floor and work. They are not interested in offering me orientation. That sucks!!!

OriginalWmm,

I'm definitely working on that. I noticied that HR is extremely sloooooooow. The nurse recruiters are not as eager to hire nurses as they use to be.

I'm actually trying to get out of home health. I think this is what's hindering me from a hospital job. For some reason HR and recruiters feel that "home health" is not enough med-surg to work in a hospital setting....

Definitely don't let that stop you. I did travel nursing and I was told I was a job hopper. It was like, "Um yeah you go from job to job every 13 weeks with little to no orientation, but work for one agency." I didn't understand. It is a way to wean out applicants. Just keep on trucking.
