Colleges are full?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hey This is my first post, hopefully i'm in the right spot. I'v been interested in attending college and getting a degree in some field of nursing. I'v done research and it shows that Nursing is the #3 growing career in America. The Community College here in Morro Bay/Slo County in CA states that they are unable to take anymore nurses untill 2011. Is this true for other parts of The US? Is the demand for Nurses eventually going to be filled?

I just wish people would really make up their mind about what they wanna do. I know alot of people that after 6 months of becoming a RN, they want to change career. Those spots they took up in nursing school could of been given to people who really want to be nurses.

I hear that a lot too after six months. It's fairly common to go through doubts and regrets that first year. We think we're not cut out to be nurses, we think we should have picked something else, etc. Most of us get through that and hang in there and become good nurses. Nursing school has a way of weeding out those who truly don't like nursing and most make it through that first year hump. But yes there are some who quit after six months, around here the feeling is there, but the actual ones who quit are few and far between. It's interesting that you know a lot of them.

I agree but be careful because sciences are usually only good for 5 years.

That's not about people changing their mind, but about grave realities of modern version of bedside nursing. Ivory-tower nursing schools do not prepare you for that, and many people are panicking after seeing what they got themselves into.

This is so very true. It's not about being impetuous but about seeing what it's really like as a licensed nurse in many environments today. Nursing is something you have to experience before you truly can know if it's for you or not. I don't begrudge those who find out the latter is true for them. It's tough out there.

not here. i live in the buffalo, niagara falls n.y. area and most of the programs adn and bsn have little to no waitlist. if you want to give up sunny california for cold western ny for a few years you could probably get into an rn program very quickly.

Thanks guys for all of your insightful information regarding this.
