Caregivers Taking Care Of Ourselves

Oh my gosh, the pandemic is here! Mass destruction is upon us and the end of the world will happen. Great googly moogly, perhaps we should all make a bunker and store oodles-of-noodles and twinkies because of course, those do not go bad for centuries. And don't forget the Tamiflu. Heaven's to Betsy, we have never had the flu before?! Nurses Announcements Archive Article

Caregivers Taking Care Of Ourselves

Let's get it together folks. As health care professionals, we sound like the silly group of birds on the ice age. Remember the ones that are going "prepare for the ice age" and trying in vain to hide the last melon?

How are we going to help our patients over their fears and answer their questions if we are panicking? Let us start by realizing that the vast majority of us will only suffer from the flu and that is only if we are the unlucky ones to get sick. The people most affected will be those who don't have access to health care, and those that are healthy. That's right, it's hitting the 20 something's to the 40 something's the hardest.

Yeah, it sucks, we will deal with it, ladies and gentlemen. What is one way to deal with a tough situation at work...come on you remember...it was in nursing school...a thorough self-examination of the way you feel about something. Talk to your peers, talk to your family, really examine how you feel.

Don't just go through scenarios in your mind, actually talk it over with other staff members. What are your facilities policies regarding a flu pandemic? Is there one in place? Could you be instrumental in helping put policies in place that help in patient flow and reducing infection rates?

Actually doing something about the problem can help in reducing your fears. That way you know what is coming down the line should there be a problem, and not only for pandemic flu but also for internal/external disaster scenarios at your facility.

Are you prepared at home for an emergency in the community if you had to leave in a hurry? Despite what I said above it does help to ease your mind if things are taken care of at home. There should be water stored, canned and dried foods available, important papers in a fireproof container, and emergency routes made out from homework and schools along with an emergency contact number that everyone knows by heart.

Now, are you all like me, go to work...go home...sleep...go to work...go home...kiss the kids...go to bed...you all know what its like. We all need to start taking better care of ourselves. We have all heard it before but now we really need to take inventory of our stress level and reduce it, because it's going to be the main thing that gets us sick (besides the nasty little old man in room 512 that just harked up a lung on your scrubs). Get some exercise, play with your children/grandkids, garden, run, read something besides a drug guide, make passionate love (what a great stress reducer eh?). Do something not nursing related.

In the end, please take care of yourselves guys so we can take care of those frightened patients out there. You are important and we need you!!!

There are many things we can do for ourselves to maintain an attitude of peace about who we are and how we apply this to our profession.

I have been studying and applying alternative modalities to do this for years now. I have been a nurse for 37 years, watching the sacrifice of a group of individuals who only wanted to assist in improving the health of the people that make up the human race.

There are many core problems that need to be addressed, number one being the need for the system to change and upgrade to what is coming out in the world of science as to how our world is created and maintained.......

Quantum physics and other older methods of health care such as Chinese, Indian- India and indigenous cultures around the world have understanding and efficacy that is so far beyond what we, in the modern allopathic system have applied or incorporated.

We all need to take personal responsibility for who we are and allow ourselves to be the best we can be as we journey through life. The method I have been studying is EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique. It does just that and is based on Chinese energy therapy that is used in acupuncture. It is simple and can be done by anyone. It is inclusive of all levels of our being....physical, mental and spiritual. It is a true holistic approach to healing.

I invite all to check it out as it is, I believe, a promising solution to all that is happening in our profession and the delivery of health care to our world. The benefit is for the care giver or educator and patients alike.

We are meant to live in abundance of love, health and wealth if we only believe!

Yes! Thank you!

hey, this H1N1 is a lot more than the flu strins that we are acustomed or immuned to, it is a DIFFERENT type of affect on the nervous system, personally, a lot think that it is small attack on the US. Read and know how mutation of such occurs, them how it is anly possibly spread from pigs (yea right) to humans. Well, hog is bad for everyone. Do not eat pork, it is soooooo bad for human and caused alot of health problems. The reason why our grandparents lived to do old is becuase they raised their pigs, and cows and chickend without giving them steroids.

Did you know that green peppers are grown with a specific extraction of DNA from a rats ear injected into DNA of the peppers-making it a hybrid seed enabling then the green peppers to be produced in dehydration areas of land, in other words green peppers are grown without hydration. This is SCIENCE.

I really think that the H1N1 walked in on two legs somewhere.

Great note I wholeheartedly agree. The creator is not short on methods and ideas. We simply need to ask him for some. It should not be a surprised when he answers! I am right behind you with 34 years of experience. I ran upon a group and book that teaches similar things. I don't have my hands on it but it is called quantum healing. I tried it with a group in Charlotte and it does work really well. As you grow older it's easy to see that the worst thing we can be is closed minded and in a box. Open up and get out of the box people so that we can live long, healthy and wealthy like others in scripture. 200 yrs old would not be a bad place to start, some lived to be 7&800!! Hey who'd have thought even 20 years ago that we would have a forum like this? Internet? what's that? even better, there's more to come....

GM!!

Genetically modified foods...

Same with our tomatoes, spliced with fish DNA to help keep in colder temperatures.....

Organic foods are not as organic as you think....

Keep this in mind:

You have a farmer with every intent to grow healthy organic foods at Oscars Organics, then you have a farmer a few hundred miles away growing non-organic at Farmer Freds,

Well bees and other insects go to Farmer Freds and realize they dont like his crops as much so they pop on over to Oscars Organics and bring over their empty tummies and pollen with all of the DNA of those non-organic crops...really Oscars Organic and Farmer Fred are business partners....

Then the groundwater, flowing in abundance under the ground through the fertilizer filled crops of Farmer Freds, then going downstream to good ole Oscars place to fertilize his crops too...

Its a no win situation, especially when consumers really want to pay for those yummy organics and then realize they are paying more for something that is not quite so organic....

All of our foods are Genetically Modified, as are we at this point!

We do need to take care of ourselves, because the big wigs above arent looking out for us, they are looking out for the $$$$$$$$ to regulate everything....

I think we all should be aware of the changes that we are all facing in the coming months.....We have a choice if we only get organized and voice what we want. Information is out there and has been for a while now. The first major Codex rules are due to go into affect in December of this year.... Here is a site that gives comprehensive, clear and substantiated information as to how these changes will effect the world... http://www.healthfreedomusa.org/ We need to start thinking outside of the box. We better start now....Look at the time frame this has been happening in...since the '60s.........

Taking care of yourself? How do you get on a flu pandemic? Get a vaccine... I haven't had real bad flu in years.... Nursing immunities rock!

What I am not immune to is this toxic environment of stress. 8:1 patient ratios, wearing a communicator I get interrupted on constantly, not good when you're programming an infusion at the same time... Then I wear a locator because apparently, the hospital made the hallways too long to find us! Yet for some reason, they don't know I did hourly rounding even though I'm wearing 5 pounds of electronics they can track me with!

I have the majority of symptoms for PTSD and clinical depression, as well as anxiety attacks at home... what's the point in being a nurse when you don't have the time to help people? May as well just stay home until the money is gone and go to the ER like everyone else. Let the state figure out who's buying (read:They are).

There is no accupuncture in the world to fix this. Let me know when you have a picture of the Chi force or your Chakra's or Kundalini or whatever.... That "force" is just your own nerves saying "hey that needle tickles", it's simply biofeedback exercises, not medicine. Yes, meditation can help and calming exercises... but not on-the-job, and that's where you need it the most.

I have 14 years in nursing, have always been excellent clinically and refuse to lower my standards so some big-wig can re-invest our non-profits profit into his own back pocket!

They say there's no money for nurses, then they turn around and buy another healthcare system and keep building new hospitals.... Hmmmmm (and you know management is giving themselves bonuses the whole time). Our CNO refuses to stand up for anything, isn't that part of the job description? They aren't going to like the staff turnover report this year!

I guess I have to be HONEST with my patients, but administration has no ethical code at all. And that is what really burns me, not the stress, not any of my silly problems, but the being LIED to continuously. Not the petty nit-picking, but the lack of being treated with a little dignity or respect for eating their lies for 14 years.... aw well, time to look for jobs again....:icon_roll

Interesting points. I was raised on a farm, ate pork and nothing ever happened to us. My father commented on this virus saying that it seems like a virus that came from somewhere else, but not from pigs. We drank milk directly from our goats udders too.

It's pretty simple, if you "keep people sick, you keep the profits rolling in".

Another reason why I am NOT a fan of bio engineering of food. Anyone ever read up on Monsanto Corporation?

I am appalled that you have to wear a tracking device?!! I just can't believe it....I would've left the second they rolled that out.
