CA New Grad moving to CO

Nurses General Nursing

Hello!

I will be graduating next year from a BSN program. I want to move from my home state of California to Colorado. My graduation from nursing school isn't until the middle of June (6/15), and the hospital in Colorado I want to apply to says the NCLEX must be taken by July 23 with a start date of August 13. There is a cohort that starts in November, with a later application window.

I was wondering how soon after I graduate would I be eligible to take the NCLEX? Would I even be able to apply to a Colorado hospital as a CA licensed nurse? Thank you all for your time and consideration.

You do not have to get the initial license from CA, you can apply for an initial CO license.

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

I would not move to Colorado without a written job offer in hand that outlines starting date, details of your internship and your starting wages. Colorado is one of the toughest markets in the country for new grad nurses and a job is far from guaranteed.

Specializes in Women’s Health.

I wouldn't even bother with applying for licensure with California. You'd be luckly if you even got your approval to test by July, let alone sit for the NCLEX. Submit you initial application for RN license with the CO BRN. One of my classmates did this and she took her NCLEX long before the rest of us. You can always endorse to CA later. Good luck.
