What were the best and worst jobs you ever had before becoming a nurse?
My best was as a vocalist for a band. In fact, if you watch the movie "My Life" w/ Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman, I was the singer in the wedding band at the reception scene. Red sequined dress shaking a tambourine. That was fun!
Worst job was my first job ever, working at Dunkin' Donuts. I still have trouble eating those!
Best Job: I worked as a bar cashier on the General Jackson showboat at Opryland in Nashville.
Worst Job: Nursing home tech in the summer between jr and sr year of nursing school. It was pitiful, 20 or more patients on the hall and only one tech to feed them and get them up, clean them etc. I lasted 2 days and went home crying the second day.
What a fascinating thread this has been to read!
Worst job: I was a bill collector for six years. I've been cussed at, personally threatened with bodily harm, and had people threaten suicide. (One of my co-workers did actually have a guy shoot himself in the head while on the phone with him).
Best job: Fraud investigator for a large bank. I looked for counterfeit and forged checks. It was very interesting and I worked with great people.
Best Job - Working in a cottage style setting with Alzheimers Residents. I was the primary caregiver in their "home" and got to make meals and help with cleaning etc. It was so much fun.
Worst Job - Working in a donut shop (I won't name which chain) and being treated like crap the whole time I worked there.

Best - Working in a trauma unit - we had the best time. Stressful, but great fun working with great people!
Worst - The summer I detassled corn! I despised that job, but got paid well for a 13-year-old kid!
