Bad weekend...need to vent....:o

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi folks,

Sorry i haven't been around much lately..I've been desperately trying to catch up on sleep. I worked the weekend...and it sucked..to say the least. Friday night, I got to work and all of a sudden got the worst case of diarrhea that I've ever had in my life.... the cramping, urgency...(sorry to be so graphic) was horrible. I'm sure I spent more time on the pot then with my patients. That same night..I admitted a lady with a small nosebleed...A NOSEBLEED...that had stopped of course. The ER doc went to D/C her and she refused to go home....errrrrrrrr....so he admitted her 'for the night". I guess he doesn't realize that admitting someone even for the night....is about two hours worth of paper work. Then she was one of these....get me cool drinks, snacks, empty my colostomy NOW...types of people...errrrrrrrr. Then Saturday night...we admitted a million people, I had three confused patients, a lady die on me...(it was kind of expected) and were a nurse short because they pulled one from us to go work in the ER because the ER nurse called in sick and no other ER nurse would come in.....errrrrrrrr. I was so busy and overwhelmed...I just about started crying..it was awful. Then...Sunday night...wasn't too bad....but I had a lady that was going to surgery in the AM...the doc wanted an IV started. The lady had these huge beautiful veins.....I tried and blew two. Then another nurse came in and got it in instantly.....I felt soooo stupid. The ladies daughter was there and probably thought that an incompentent idiot (me) had been caring for her mother all night...ERRRRR

On a good note though...I have applied for a in house part time job. We have this Medi Tech program and right now are just using it for lab and x-ray orders...but starting soon..we are going to be expanding and having all of our orders on the puter...along with charting on the puter. The job is part time...helping to get the stuff going. Sounds really neat to me...I love puters!!! And then I would do that part time and work on the floor part time....sounds like a wonderful cure for burnout...don't you think? I sure hope that I get it.....four other nurses applied too...so wish me luck. Thanks for listening everyone....I luv ya all lots.

I think your new job sounds fantastic. You have to forestall burnout. I went from ER charge RN to ER case manager for that very reason and it is soooo much better. Good luck!

Sounds WONDERFUL !!! A little diversity to break up the routine... and take off a little stress. Sure hope you succeed and land this one ! Keeping my fingers crossed ! ;)

And yes... re the diarrhea ? Had several bouts of that (what I like to call "dumping syndrome" in my case .. as it always happens right after I eat)... last week myself. Try being in the middle of taking a patient off the dialysis machine (Giving their blood back)... or in the middle of trying to stop a major "blow out" when their finger slips off their access puncture site... NOT a good time ! I, too, felt guilty... stayed in the loo so long. :stone Nearly passed out a couple times... breaking out in sweats, BP hitting bottom... horrible feeling !

Yuk. Hope you're all better now. :)
