Anyone ever worked for Rx Crossroads as a contract RN?

I just accepted a position as a contract RN with Rx Crossroads to do home teaching of self-injection for specific meds. It's only meant as a supplementary income, not full-time work, and I have to file my own taxes. But it sounds fairly simple, and it's for the city I currently live in. So I just wanted to see if anyone knows anything about them. I've investigated their website and know that they're based in KY. Hopefully there won't be any horror stories forthcoming... Thanks all! :D

Are they paying you via 1099 or W2?

Since your paying your own taxes I'm guessing 1099, legally speaking it makes a difference.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't received my contract yet, so I don't know. They are supposed to be sending it out to me and then I read over it, sign it, and send it back. So a 1099 is the thing to do?

1099 mean you pay both parts of the standard taxes (FICA, etc). Since you paying more in taxes adjust your contract rate accordingly.

The good news; you can deduct dang near every necessary to preform your job. You can also pretax; move a crap load of $$ into your retirement account.

The bad news; no possibility of unemployment compensation, health insurance, etc.

Make sure you completely understand your contract especially in terms of your pay(rate, hours expected, hours overtime(if paid)), sick leave (if offered-I doubt it), and if anything is unexplainable hire a lawyer.

FYI:I contracted as IT Developer, and was not uncommon for paychecks to be delivered 2-3 weeks late.

Well, I already have a full-time job, so this job is just on the side for extra $. They said it doesn't usually have enough clients to make it more than that, so that's fine. I just need to start saving up more. I do like the idea of putting some away in retirement, though... They set the rate at about $200 per visit to teach self-injection. Not bad, even after the higher tax rate for

Sounds like a pretty good gig. Let me know how it works out for you. Best of luck.

I will. They have positions in other states, too. They're posted somewhere on their site. Just google Rx Crossroads. If this turns out to be worth it, then I'll let you know to check it out.

I'd also check into insurance issues. Will you carry your own ? What about general liability (since you'll be entering clients' homes)? In this litigious society we live in, you need to CYA in any situation, but particularly if you're going to be "on your own" (without a facility's insurance and legal team to back you up).

I also strongly advise you to have an initial discussion with a tax preparer. If you need to be making monthly or quarterly tax payments, that's something you need to know ahead of time so you don't incur penalties and interest after the fact. I have a friend who does some "contract work" in her home via telephone/internet, and the info she got ahead of time from her tax preparer was invaluable.

My brother-in-law is an accountant and handles our taxes, so he'll be the one stuck doing this, too. LOL! And I already have with NSO ever since I graduated NS. So I feel I'm adequately prepared as of now to start and will adjust as the climate changes.

Still wouldn't be a bad idea to ask an insurance agent about getting . I know every state is different, but I sure wouldn't want to be setting foot on someone else's property in a professional capacity without at least some liability insurance to protect my family. Maybe it's not something that's applicable in your area, but it doesn't cost anything to at least ask an agent.

(Sorry for sounding like a wet blanket -- just trying to keep you (and your family's finances) protected! I deal with taxes and insurance in my current (non-nursing) job, so these are the types of things that cross my mind.)

Yeah. I'll ask. You never know. People are nuts.

What did you decide on this contract position regarding insurance coverage. I have been offered the same position here where I live and read in the contracts that is required, although they do not ask for proof of insurance. Malpractice from NSO (which I also have) is different than contractor's liability insurance. Just wondering what you did on this and whether you are getting many assignments. I too will do this to supplement my regular income.

Thanks
