Any MSN-CNL grads out there?

Any direct entry MSN-CNL grads out there? There's a high likelihood I'll apply for msn-cnl program, and just want to know of any "life after" experiences.

Are you glad you got into the msn-cnl program? How easy/difficult was it for you to get a job? What kind of work are you doing now?

Basically, how is life after graduation?

I have no idea because I will be starting a direct entry MSN-CNS program in the fall. So I hope some people comment on this post!

I was looking into a program like this, and I would love to see if anyone has a response!

I'm not sure what the hiring climate is like right now but a couple of years ago my hospital hired a couple and to be honest with you they were sorely lacking in hands on experience. In fact one had never given an IM injection and yet she had been well groomed to delegate to the rest of us. Truthfully I don't know how they can justify graduating a masters level nurse without any nursing experience but thats just me and if the programs and jobs are out there I can see why it would be attractive. Keep in mind that from what I have heard they only start out at new graduate RN rates which can be in the mid $20s per hour. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have also worked with a few MSN-CNL grad before too. I agree that their clinical skills are seriously lacking. My manager refuses to hire them because she feels that you must have bedside experience before you can become a good leader. I couldn't say it any better myself!

Thanks for the input guys. There's not a lot of practical information on msn-cnl in the internet, compared to bsn etc.

I am an MSN CNL grad who graduated in July. I just got hired for a "real nursing" position this month. I will be working as a staff nurse in a NICU. As of right now, I am not certified as a CNL because I haven't taken the test. I am going to wait a year or two to gain some experience as a nurse (I was in a direct-entry program with no nursing experience prior) before I decide if I want to become certified as a CNL. I don't think anyone I graduated with is working as a CNL, but again, that's because we didn't have any nursing experience before the program and were basically told we should get some before we tried that!
